Kingspan MICROHOME 2024/25 2nd Prize Award: Why is living in Hong Kong so exhausting? Grappling with Hong Kong's severe housing crisis caused by high costs and limited land, this project envisions a floating colony of modular, prefabricated microhomes. Designed to be off-grid, sustainable, and energy-independent, it forms a temporary, dynamic micro-city that fosters community interaction and adapts to residents' evolving needs, offering a novel solution to Hong Kong’s housing dilemma. This award-winning entry was authored by Giorgio Maria Martellono, Luca Quadro, Chang Liu and Jacopo Leccia. In its seventh year, the 2023/24 Architecture Competitions // Buildner competition awarded a total of 10 prizes and 6 honourable mentions including 5 Kingspan Awards for submissions integrating Kingspan products. This prestigious event attracted architects and designers globally from 115 countries. The 2024/25 Kingspan-Buildner MICROHOME competition is live now, register your interest here: https://lnkd.in/eXzuKnEh #Kingspan #BetterBuildingsforaBetterWorld #ArchitectureCompetition #MicrohomeKingspanEdition #Buildner

Our Associate Director James Allison joined the ‘Preserving the Past: Innovations in Adaptive Reuse’ panel at the London Build Expo earlier today. James shared insights around climate-conscious strategies and the opportunities they present for the built environment, from adapting existing and historic buildings through to the design of new buildings which embed principles of adaptability from the outset in order to limit constraints for future redevelopment. Underpinning this for Bennetts Associates is our commitment to simplifying design, reducing complexity, and thereby lowering carbon emissions while enhancing future flexibility. Thank you to London Build for offering a platform for such a valuable discussion and to the rest of today’s panel Debbie Ward (The Alliance for Sustainable Building Products), Alasdair Donn (Willmott Dixon) Simon Davis Ba(Hons) Dip Arch RIBA (RSHP) AND Nicola Forest (The Crown Estate).
