Are You Looking for a Research Internship? If you're an engineering, science, medicine, or management student seeking a research internship to enhance your skills, this post is for you. I have also attached links to relevant documents for your references. About Me: I'm a 3rd-year Chemical Engineering undergrad at IIT Delhi, currently working on microfluidic systems and flow instability. I have worked with Max Planck Institute of Colloids & Interfaces and the University of Cambridge. I believe my experience will help you in securing a research internship. Here are the key points I want to highlight. 1. Essentials of Mailing: - Avoid using your institutional email directly; it may go to spam. Create a dedicated email for this process. - Use browser extensions like MailSuite for efficiency. - Send emails during the morning hours of official working days (8 AM - 10 AM, Monday to Friday) for better visibility. If applying abroad, schedule emails to match the local time. 2. Finding Researchers and Professors: - Identify your area of interest, whether it's a subject you've studied or are passionate about. - Use academic databases like Google Scholar, ResearchGate, PubMed, and Scopus to find relevant papers, researchers, and their contact information. - Check university faculty directories for professors in your field of interest. 3. Writing an Impressive Cover Letter: - Introduction: Greet the professor and briefly introduce yourself, including your name, year, course, and university. Express your motivation for seeking a research internship. - Body: Highlight your recent work, mentioning relevant projects, skills, and experiences. Keep it concise and relevant. - Conclusion: Explain why you want to intern under that professor, how you can contribute, and how it aligns with your goals. Include a hyperlink to your CV/Resume rather than attaching it to avoid spam filters. 4. Key Factors in Your CV/Resume: A well-crafted cover letter is crucial; it encourages the professor to view your CV. Use a professional CV template from platforms like Overleaf/LaTeX. 5. Personal Experience: The process requires persistence. It only takes one positive response, whether after your 1st or 100th email. Don't be discouraged by rejections. Keep applying. If you don’t receive a response within a week, send a polite follow-up. Securing a research internship is challenging and can be time-taking but it is equally rewarding. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out. Link to Drive Resource File: https://lnkd.in/gigRaHCq Edit: You can also find the list of many research intern programs in the last sheet of the excel file present in the drive. Good Luck and All the very best for your future endeavours.
