A big thank you to Marianna Skylakaki for the opportunity to talk about mining's crucial role in modern society, during the #BraveNewMetals episode of #BraveNewGreece which aired on Ant1 Channel. Amongst other things, the program highlighted how the Halkidiki Kassandra Mines investment of #HellasGold proved to be a strategic asset for the country’s energy diplomacy and beyond. Developing our country’s #mining resources respectfully, is a key component towards the Greek economy’s growth, which through the region’s wealth in #copper – a significant #metal for green and #digitaltransition – will render #Greece a major producer of #criticalrawmaterials and help #Europe become less dependent on third-country mineral resources. Hellas Gold S.A. heralds #responsiblemining as the cornerstone of its operations in Halkidiki, as it strives to honour the region’s 25-centuries’ long mining tradition while ushering it into the modern age in the most environmentally conscious way possible. Guided by Eldorado Gold’s rich expertise, we have invested heavily in #newtechnologies while implementing the highest international #safety standards to develop a truly #sustainable operation. Meanwhile, we are committed to our workforce, which comprises over 1,900 employees in Olympias and #Skouries, and we actively support local communities and add value to their living environment, through our core values of openness, transparency, respect and trust. https://lnkd.in/dda9gDxQ

For knowledge sake quite insightful
Our Buzwagi mine was an economic powerhouse for Tanzania’s Shinyanga region for nearly 15 years, with the mine officially closing in July 2022. But that’s not the end of the story. Since then, Barrick has been attending to Buzwagi’s environmental rehabilitation, while also advancing plans to transform the closed mine into a Special Economic Zone, replacing the mine as the region’s economic driver. 📷 Barrick President and CEO Mark Bristow hands over a new airport terminal built at Buzwagi’s Kahama airstrip to the Tanzania Airport Authority last month, paving the way for a scheduled airline service in and out of Kahama. The new terminal will serve more than 200 passengers at a time, compared to only 25 passengers previously, and is expected to be a catalyst for economic growth in the region.

This is a great example of how the mining industry is not only a vital source of economic growth and development, but also a key partner of the communities where it operates. By integrating with the local stakeholders, respecting the environment and the culture, and investing in social and infrastructural projects, the mining industry can create a positive and lasting impact. This relationship will also foster trust, collaboration, and innovation, which are essential for the sustainability and competitiveness of the sector. Integration of the mining industry with the communities is not only a moral duty, but also a strategic opportunity to create shared value and mutual benefits.

With ancestral ties to Eastern Kuku Yalanji (Jalunji Clan) on his maternal his side, and paternal connections to Boigu Island (Malu Kiwai) in the top western cluster group of the Torres Strait Islands, Jason’s role as the Director of Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreements, or TUMRAs, seems less a vocation, than a natural fit. TUMRAs are legislated community-based plans for the management of traditional resources and are vital to the successful co-management of the Great Barrier Reef. Thanks to the work of Jason, and his predecessors over the past 20 years since the program’s inception, there are now 10 long-term TUMRA agreements in place, as well as an Indigenous Land Use Agreement, covering a further 18 Traditional Owner groups, which are helping to preserve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, and inform the future management of the Great Barrier Reef. While the Great Barrier Reef remains a vibrant, beautiful ecosystem of immense value to Australians and the world, global and local actions are needed to protect it. Peru, country in western South America. Except for the Lake Titicaca basin in the southeast, its borders lie in sparsely populated zones. The boundaries with Colombia to the northeast and Brazil to the east traverse lower ranges or tropical forests, whereas the borders with Bolivia to the southeast, Chile to the south, and Ecuador to the northwest run across the high Andes. To the west, territorial waters, reaching 200 miles (320 km) into the Pacific Ocean, are claimed by Peru. #Germin8 Germin8
