In public relations, timing is everything. ⏰ Take for example our ‘Love at First Height’ package with Treetop Trekking Miami and Jungle Island. 💖 From the approval process to ensuring operational feasibility, it took longer than expected - not a fault of any party involved. We started pitching the press less than 2 weeks before Valentine's Day, too late for most journalists' lead times. (We knew this ahead of time but still gave it the ‘ol college try.) The feedback we received from journalists was super positive, but timing again minimized our media coverage opportunities. Key Lessons: Early planning is crucial for PR success. Plan your holiday promotions and campaigns well in advance, especially for complex packages involving multiple parties. Be prepared to adjust your strategy and timeline. Ensure all teams involved, from marketing to operations, are in sync from the start. When timelines are tight, manage expectations with all stakeholders.  ~~~ The silver lining is we now have an excellent Valentine’s Day package that we can recycle for next year. There are two major problems with the clients’ ask in Avi Hyman’s post. The client wants some “buzz” but wants it created quickly and without spending a lot of $$ One of the many problems with #publicrelations is a lack of understanding as to how this #marketing discipline even works. It’s a long game of building trust, confidence, #credibility in a brand whether it’s a person, company or a product. And big surprise - this takes both time and money. If you want to control your message and its timing buy #advertising. There are advantages to that. But If you want the kind of noise created by brands like Dove, Barbie, Viagra, Volvo, the Ice Bucket Challenge etc. expect an investment in time, money and expertise. Red carpet events can be chaos. Especially when an A-list celebrity is in attendance. As publicists, we must morph into bulldogs and traffic controllers to ensure everything runs smoothly. The press become master negotiators - each vying for their photos and interviews. It honestly makes for an amusing SNL skit. Pulling off a successful red carpet requires: - Grit and patience - A meticulous plan - Media check-in and press list  - Tips sheets for journalists to identify less-known faces - Pre-arranged media spots marked on the floor - Team members in strategic positions to manage media interviews and help run defense. Post-event, it’s crucial to review what worked, what didn’t, and adjust for next time. Flexibility and learning from past red carpet mistakes are key. Huge thanks to my PR team for pulling off some amazing red carpets during the Miami Film Festival, and to the media for their outstanding coverage. 🙏 P.S. "Do one thing every day that scares you." - Eleanor Roosevelt Diving back into standup comedy has taught me invaluable lessons and continues to push me out of my comfort zone in the best ways. I’ve also found important parallels in my career in public relations (PR). In both PR and comedy, the goal is to connect and resonate with the audience. In PR, the audience is who you aim to reach with your news, and in comedy, it’s who is in the room. In comedy, not every joke will land, and you have to quickly pivot and keep the audience engaged. In PR, unexpected questions from reporters or shifts in the narrative require you to think on your feet and sometimes alter your course. You need to be adaptable in both. Here’s to making people smile and telling engaging stories, one way or another!

Six months as Sarah Grap Public Relations… six months! It’s been a wild and rewarding journey filled with emotions that run the gamut - excitement, joy, fear, doubt - but what keeps rising to the top is gratitude. Gratitude that I had the courage to take a chance on myself. Gratitude for all the people supporting me. And gratitude for the clients who have entrusted me thus far. I’ve been reminded by my incredibly supportive life partner (shout out Christopher K. Grap) to remember to celebrate all the wins, big and small. The client wins are huge, but I’m also very appreciative of the small, every day wins I’m recognizing in my personal growth, which has accelerated greatly in this season of life. So cheers to taking a step back to reflect on all the wins throughout the past six months and looking forward to continuing on this rollercoaster of a journey. Thank you to everyone who continues to show up and support me - from the get-to-know-you and catch up coffees to the client recommendations - it’s been an amazing reminder to fill your circle with good people - those relationships are everything.
