Did you happen to catch yesterday's WBZ | CBS Boston story which aired in a galaxy far, far away? Well, maybe not that far away. You may recall a short video that we posted here back in July from behind the scenes of an interview with Jacob Wycoff, Jacob U. '24, Madison Tong '25, and Aaron Codrington '25, about a very special engineering project. Well, it's now aired and... it's awesome. #engineering #olinprojects #starwars #engineeringeducation

<begin "get off my lawn" grumpy old man rant>I'm a big fan of tiny cars. Except for when I'm driving around a parking lot, trying to find a spot, and then when I find one I pull up to it only to realize that there's a hidden tiny car 🚗 already occupying the space! Honestly, that's a minor frustration. What's much worse is when I'm pulling into my dedicated parking lot, that is only supposed to be for faculty members, and the spots are all full and I see very young people (likely not faculty) getting out of cars and going into the building. I love my students. But I'd love them even more if they'd not take up all the parking spots in the faculty lot! That's why I was super impressed to see Ryan Hagerty and his Spot Parking team win the Brigham Young University Student Innovator of the Year competition. Their solution uses AI to track vehicles, by license plate, and determine which ones are parked illegally in a lot, allowing for more robust and affordable citation processes. I truly hope their company takes off and BYU pays them to use it. And then increases citations so that students stop parking in my lot.</end rant> #artificialintelligence #parkingsytems #innovativeideas #studentsparkinginmyspotaretheworst

Director of Investments at Sawtooth Development Group | Seasoned Industrial Real Estate Expert | Specialist in Acquisitions and Strategic Investments
Completed project alert 📣 I'm pleased to announce that Sawtooth Development Group and AT Industrial Co just completed a 334,563 square foot build-to-suit for St. Luke's in Idaho. Big thank you to Okland Construction and our construction team for getting this project done ON TIME and UNDER BUDGET. This is a "consolidated service center" for the hospital, so there were a few interesting details on this project: 1) Super flat slab for picking and sorting robots 🤖. The robotics company usually needs to grind the warehouse slab to meet the flatness tolerances required for their robots. However, in our case, the slab already met these tolerances because our standard specs exceed the industry norm. 2) Fully climate controlled warehouse ❄. The entire building stays between 72-77 degrees. 3) Pharmacy-grade cleanroom 💊. Also, a sterilization and repackaging room. 4) Setup for future solar and EV charging ☀. #Idaho #IndustrialRealEstate #Warehouse #Logistics #Meridian #CRE #NAIOP https://lnkd.in/gZkNBe5a

NEWS: New Building Will Consolidate Multiple West Virginia State Laboratories -- Designs by ZMM Architects and Engineers and CannonDesign are underway for a new facility that will bring together under one roof three West Virginia state laboratories and researchers from two universities, creating novel opportunities for collaboration. McClaren, Wilson & Lawrie, Inc. (MWL) are the lab planners for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and State Police Forensics, and Potesta & Associates, Inc. & Associates are providing civil engineering services. Housed in the new building will be: > The Department of Health’s Office of Laboratory Services—responsible for analyzing drinking water and medical cannabis—currently dispersed in three locations, including a former elementary school > The Division of Labor’s Office of Weights and Measures lab, which has outgrown its current location > Forensic labs operated by the West Virginia State Police and the Department of Homeland Security > Researchers from Marshall University and West Virginia University The $250 million, 200,000-sf building will be located in the West Virginia Regional Technology Park, an established research hub with 28 other STEM businesses. Design work is expected to be completed by early 2025, with construction wrapping up by 2027. https://lnkd.in/emY2Jgu8 #Government #ResearchAndDevelopment #AnimalResearch #Collaboration #GroundBreaking #Modernization #EmergencyResponse

What do science teachers do during their summer holidays? #backtothefuture When you observe the energies that go into a school production there is some consideration into the work that is required to put something as special as this. (And a Westonbirt production compares well).
