Calirad is an innovative company focused on using camera-based technology to identify spectators at rally races where there is an increased risk of vehicle collisions. Images from competing vehicles are transmitted to a web application so that safety officials can assess the danger and intervene immediately. While certain motorsport events, such as Formula 1, unfold on closed tracks, others take place on difficult local roads or off-road terrain in vast geographical areas. This complexity makes comprehensive track safety impractical, which can lead to accidents and spectator fatalities. Calirad addresses this challenge by installing a device in the vehicles that monitors the race course and identifies spectators in dangerous positions. The device, which uses machine learning, focuses on detecting spectators near the track or in potential run-off zones. In remote areas with limited network signals, Calirad prioritizes on-device processing (edge computing) over cloud-based video transmission.
