As we begin the year 2024 I would like to give free advice to those who battle with conveyor belts and I will just stick to 10 points.
1 . Technology: You cannot transition to technology if you fail to do the basics. A technology implemented on failed basics is a technology wasted and it will never work.
2 .Investing money into a problem: Instead of drilling down to the root cause, Engineers tend to complicate issues by investing on expensive methods. Never ever approve any proposal that has not exhausted basic principles of conveying.
2 . Competence: The knowledge gap is too wide on conveying related issues but it takes a great leader to accept that the gap exist and need help.
3 . Safer conveyors: Safety is a resultant of speedly executed basics. If you need not worry about conveyor safety, get the basics right and in time then safety just correct itself.
4 . Be Bold: To run Conveyor belts you need to be bold and decisive to make impact.
5 . Trying things out: If you have fear to try things out or challenge designs then you cannot run Conveyors.
6 . Simplicity : Implement simple systems that can be understood by the less educated person, bear in mind that the actual people involved with day to day operation of conveyors may have not gone beyond tertiary level.
7 . Practicality: Conveyor designs must be practical for easy operation and maintenance to enable fast and efficient process. Correct designs to suite your operation.
8 . Quality: The quality of your maintenance gives you the best results. Get your maintenance done in time, allow the right time for maintenance and the quality of follow through inspection is very vital.
9 . Eliminate small threads : Eliminate small issues that can results in a bigger problem for you on the conveyor belt system, don't accumulate issues I.e Idler change.
10.Intensity when all is well: Intensify inspections and further prevention when the system is running well. Often when system is running well people tend to relax, look for potential problems and plan for them to prevent longer downtime

In this video I would like to demonstrate how lathe moves along the inspection pit and how is going in the working position.
It is very convenient and simply, on video the locomotive is not presented, but all these operations are carried out under the locomotive, the machine consistently re-profiling wheelsets, moving under the locomotive from one to another one, at the same time the locomotive remains on the place without movements.
Time intervals - fixing of the machine on rails - 10 minutes,
movement of the machine from one wheelset to another - 5 minutes.
Total preparatory time for moving of the lathe from one wheelset to another - is required 15 minutes, not bad.
