I hadn't realized that the rankings were released already, but... 🎉 Exciting news for my alma mater, Xavier University of Louisiana! I am beyond proud to see Xavier ranked #6 in the latest U.S. News & World Report’s Best Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) rankings. As a proud alumna, this recognition means so much to me personally. 💛💚 What makes this year’s rankings even more special to me, as a former U.S. News employee, is their move away from categories such as acceptance rates and alumni giving in calculating rankings. This shift is crucial because historically, alumni giving at HBCUs often can’t compare to larger, more prestigious, or Ivy League universities due to systemic disparities. This outdated approach often resulted in an unfair disadvantage for HBCUs and smaller institutions. By focusing on what truly matters—like student outcomes and opportunities—U.S. News is moving in the right direction toward highlighting the excellence and impact of institutions like Xavier. This recognition reflects not just the hard work of the students and faculty but also the legacy and importance of HBCUs in providing educational equity and opportunity. 🎓💫 Here’s to the continued success of Xavier and the many HBCUs creating change and nurturing the next generation of leaders! 🖤✊🏽 #XULA #HBCUPride #HigherEd #XavierUniversity #USNews #HBCUExcellence Xavier University Alumni Relations (Official)

Congratulations to all Leeds Beckett University students graduating this week. What an amazing achievement! But remember: 'It’s okay not to know.' It might surprise you that most people, if they’re being totally honest, don’t really know what they want to do – even the most confident of people who give the impression that they’ve got it all figured out, actually haven’t. People are quick to judge, label and put you in a box: “What are you going to do with your degree?” they ask. While this question likely stems from a place of concern, it perpetuates the misconception that a degree automatically translates to a specific career path. Your degree will indeed equip you with a valuable set of skills, attributes, and experiences that can be applied across various jobs and industries. No one, possessing even an ounce of wisdom, anticipates you to have your entire career mapped out immediately after university – building a fulfilling career takes time and involves a myriad of twists, turns, loops, highs, lows, unexpected detours and more chance encounters than anyone fully appreciates. You’re not merely ‘undecided’; you’re ‘open-minded’ and ‘curious.’ You don’t need to make a final decision; you have the ability to adapt. This flexibility is crucial in today’s world of work that is inherently more complex and uncertain, but also full of unknowns and exciting possibilities. See yourself as a curiosity-driven explorer, taking that first opportunity (whatever it may be) which is the next first step of many, in your exciting future. 💥 📸 taken yesterday from the fab Leeds School of Arts, Leeds Beckett University roof terrace

Career and college journeys are not linear! Love this fun fact about Bernie Sanders being a transfer student. As Jaime Smith, CEP points out, he started at Brooklyn College and transferred to the University of Chicago. Some students take a gap year before they start college. Others start at community colleges or starter colleges, or as part-time students. There are so many different pathways that students can take to future success, and I love seeing other professionals highlight that here on LinkedIn! #CollegeJourney #CareerPaths #TransferStudents #FutureSuccess #NonTraditionalPath #StudentSuccess #TransitionPlanning #LinkedInCommunity
