From the 20th - 26th January 2025, air quality was Moderate (AQI 51-100) in Digana, Kurunegala, Colombo, Battaramulla (Pelawatte), Gampaha, Negombo, Ambalantota, Puttalam, Trincomalee and Jaffna.Good (AQI 0-51) in Akurana and Nuwara Eliya. Air quality reached "Unhealthy for sensitive groups" levels from January 24th to 26th, with AQI exceeding 130 in Battaramulla (Pelawatte) and Trincomalee. At the beginning of the week (20th), the Kolkata region experienced a very unhealthy state of air quality, which gradually increased to hazardous levels by the 26th. Although this hazardous state had initially appeared in the upper part of the Bay of Bengal, it was carried towards the Southern Bay by the 26th by Northerly and Easterly winds. This led to unhealthy levels in the western, eastern, and northern parts of #LKA.
