«We need funding to realize projects» - heard it before? 💰 Building new industries and value chains that face the challenge of having CO2-emissions as a global externality being priced too low is not easy. The solution is often found to be dedicated funding to close the value gap, enabled by close private-public partnership models with joint benefits for all parties 🌍 Easier said than done, and the related complexity is why some of these projects take time. That’s why it’s even more important to celebrate when funding works just at it is intended to - exemplified by the €1.2 bln Connecting Europe Facility (#CEF) funding from the #EU announced yesterday 🥳 In Equinor #LowCarbonSolution we got CEF Study funding for the CO2 Highway Europe project, which is an important piece in developing commerciality for this lighthouse project for industrial decarbonisation 🌍👏 Hats off to the team for this achievement (Inga, Cristel, Tiril and Maria I hope you celebrate over the weekend!), and a big thanks to the #EuropeanCommision for the trust and shared ambition! For #CCS as an industry, it was also great to see that both the Prinos Storage facility 🇬🇷, North Sea L10 CO2 storage 🇳🇱, and Norne CO2 facility 🇩🇰 got #CEF Works funding to move closer to FID as well - congratulations!

Going forward, PFAN will primarily focus on two programmes funded by USAID: PFAN-LAC in the Caribbean and the Pakistan Private Sector Energy Project (PFAN - PPSE). ➡ PFAN-LAC in the #Caribbean:          REEEP - Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership and Innovación Social y Ambiental will operate PFAN-LAC as the Project Preparation Facility for the Caribbean Climate Investment Programme under USAID Climate Finance for Development Accelerator (USAID CFDA). The PPF will develop a pipeline of #renewableenergy, #energyefficiency and #climateadaptation projects while providing advisory and investment facilitation services to these projects. ➡ Pakistan Private Sector Energy Project (PFAN - PPSE) PPSE will focus on facilitating investments for high-potential projects and establishing a Private Equity Fund, with the aim to support 20 projects through transaction advisory services. PPSE is also committed to enhancing capacity and outreach through various initiatives. The European Commission has released the list of projects that have received the STEP seal under the EU's Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP)!    We are very happy to see that a few projects in the CCS value chain have managed to acquire the STEP seal, improving their access to EU funding by enabling combined or multiple funding sources from various EU budget instruments. Lets take a closer look:    1️⃣DESFA and Ecolog: Liquefaction and temporary storage of CO2 in southern Greece. This project is part of an end-to-end solution for dispersed industrial emitters in Southern Greece, aiming to initially store 5Mt annually.   2️⃣Project CO2NTESSA: This carbon capture project at a NEXE Group cement plant in Našice, Croatia, aims to initially capture 739Kt of CO2 annually, leveraging synergies with the GT CCS transport project (which has received PCI Status).    3️⃣ Beli Net Zero project: A full CCS value chain project in Bulgaria, it is expected to have an initial capture capacity of 600Kt of CO2 annually from the Holcim Beli Izvor Cement Plant, followed by pipeline construction and onshore CO2 storage in nearby saline aquifers.   4️⃣TarraCO2 TRANSMISSION: A 100 km CO2 transport pipeline in Northern Spain will serve hard-to-abate industries, incorporating advanced technology and digital solutions to improve operations, reduce CAPEX, and mitigate risks.   Huge congratulations to our latest member, DESFA, for this important milestone!   Great to see that CCS projects are receiving the recognition they deserve for preserving the EU's edge on critical technologies, strengthening the argument that CCS at the end of the day is also good business. Hopefully more to come!   Find out more about STEP and have a look at the projects that got the STEP Seal here: https://lnkd.in/dpEcc8r3

The Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) and The Port of Cork Company Ltd. (PoCC) are pleased to announce a partnership to develop new port infrastructure in Cork Harbour. This initiative will accelerate the deployment of Ireland’s first offshore wind projects, targeting 2030 and beyond. Investment Commitment: ISIF has committed €88.5 million, bringing certainty to the construction of additional facilities at the Cork Container Terminal (CCT). Strategic Impact: Cork will become the first port in the State capable of supporting large-scale offshore wind projects to be developed on the East and South Coast. Future Vision: This investment supports the Port of Cork’s MasterPlan 2050, which aims to develop multi-purpose berths in Ringaskiddy, improving efficiency and expanding international reach. Donal Murphy, Senior Investment Specialist, ISIF, said: “This investment will enable major offshore wind projects and deliver valuable new port infrastructure in Cork, benefiting both the region and our wider economy. It’s an investment that’s good for Ireland’s transition to Net Zero but one that also has a catalytic impact in driving more trade and economic activity - not just in Cork Harbour but in the southern region, making it even more attractive as a hub for high-value supply chain activities. Climate action is one of ISIF’s four key investment themes and this is further proof of our commitment to renewable energy and our capacity to deploy significant capital in this way. It will bring us closer to our stated ambition of deploying €1 billion in climate action projects over a five-year period and we are well placed to exceed this figure some two years ahead of schedule.
