160 days into my new role as Director of Sierra Club Virginia Chapter! With Session looming, I wanted to share some of the takeaways I wrote down for myself. 1) Slow down - I've started telling myself this every time I get a text, call, or email. I used to make it my goal to rocket through everything. I'm learning a lot by not. 2) Keep the sense of humor - I've found that people I work with really appreciate the ability to knock the seriousness down a peg, yes, we are doing challenging stuff, and the work is hard and complex, but sometimes things are funny! Keep the joy going. 3) We won't be perfect - After I recently remarked: "Well, this is far from perfect!" one of my colleagues said to me on their way out of my office "What's perfect anyway?" Food for thought. I wrote it down. 4) Prioritize people - Something I have noticed, stemming from slowing down, is the appreciation people feel for being asked how they're doing, sharing a life update; something funny, something sad, something scary. I appreciate the trust people place in me to share it. Maybe these are simple, but over the last 160 days of trying to learn to lead in this new and different role, these have been my starting points. With deep appreciation for our team, our leadership, and a renewed focus on our mission to explore, enjoy, and protect the outdoors, on to the next 160 days!

Hard work pays off. And you can have fun doing it!   Our float in the Christmas parade won first prize!🏆   A team of over 30 volunteers in the Emerald Isle Sea Turtle Patrol (EISTP) spent over a month designing and building a float for this year's parade.   Why?   👉 Because it was fun! 👉 Because play is important for wellbeing. 👉 Because working on a project together builds community! 👉 Because it brought together volunteers in our 250 member EISTP in the "off season" of sea turtle conservation to keep us connected with one another.   In work and in life, you have to put in the time and the reps to reap the rewards.   💯 To sellers, this looks like: ➡️Building relationships with stakeholders, prospective buyers, and colleagues at work that may or may not be on your team (but whose influence might be critical in closing a large deal). ➡️Connecting people to move business forward. ➡️Being a guide to buyers to help them navigate the buying journey. ➡️Listening on LinkedIn to what your target audience is saying and engaging to ensure others know what makes you (and your company) different. ➡️Celebrating wins with your team! 🔁Repeat.
