Yesterday, I was privileged to attend an online conference that left me feeling inspired and informed! With a wealth of knowledge shared by industry experts Nkandu Fortune Mwape and Mwale.M.Tembo CA(ZM),CGMA,ACMA,FZICA,BAA,IASBC,MIODZ I gained valuable insights that I'm eager to share with my network. It was truly a game-changer! In this post, I'll highlight my top takeaways from the conference; - Set goals: Setting clear, specific, and achievable goals is essential for success. - Strive for excellence: Aim high and strive for excellence in everything you do. Embrace a growth mindset, constantly challenge yourself, and seek opportunities for growth and improvement. - Once you get to a new level reset and learn: don't become complacent. Reset your mindset, seek new knowledge, and acquire additional skills to continue growing. Ask yourself: - What skills or knowledge do I need to acquire to reach the next level? - Who can I learn from or seek mentorship from? - What resources or opportunities can I leverage to continue growing? - Reach a level of competence: Establish yourself as a trusted and reliable professional by developing a strong skill set and consistently delivering high-quality work. Focus on building your expertise and earning the trust of your peers, clients, or audience. - As you enter the job industry do not be selective, be open minded about the opportunities presented to you. Have faith in your ability and trust that you will eventually get the job you have been hoping for. Be resilient and do not stop trying It was truly worth attending.

I'm still buzzing from the opportunity to see Jude and Marcus speak 2 weeks ago. I left the event inspired about the work that we do and how to continue to push the conversations forward on how we treat and use data in our day to day work. As Dr. Marcus Collins challenged us..."We don't see the world as 'what' it is, we see the world as "WHO we are". Noodling on that will expand your horizons of how you approach the work that you do regardless of part of the 'organization' you are with. I'm left with these additional nuggets of wisdom from the talk from both Dr. Marcus Collins and Judith Carr-Rodriguez... 1 - Consumption is a CULTURAL act. 2 - Don't mistake information for intimacy. 3 - Shakespeare was right - "All the world's a stage, and we are merely [SOCIAL] actors." 4 - Stories of 'failure' generally result in stories of innovation. 5 - Don't confuse kindness with weakness. 6 - Good storytelling and creativity is 'messy' - it is likely clear at the beginning, messy in the middle and magical by the end. 7 - The messy middle is necessary! 8 - Sometimes the obvious isn't obvious until it's pointed out. #alwayslearning #4As

Today marks the conclusion of my term as the President of the James Madison Chapter of the Acacia Fraternity. Within my time in this role, I have acquired a myriad of connections and have developed many long-lasting relationships. I have also been grateful to have learned many skills that I will be able to transition to the workforce, following my graduation. These skills include, but are not limited to: 🔑 Decision-Making: Making informed and strategic decisions for the betterment of the organization. 🔑 Adaptability/Flexibility: Navigating changes and adapting to evolving circumstances effectively. 🔑 Strategic Planning: Developing long-term goals, creating action plans, and executing strategies for achieving objectives. 🔑 Conflict Resolution: Mediating disagreements and finding constructive solutions. 🔑 Event Planning/Organization: Orchestrating successful events, managing logistics, and coordinating with various stakeholders. 🔑 Public Speaking: Delivering presentations, addressing groups, and representing the fraternity. 🔑 Networking: Building connections, fostering relationships, and cultivating a strong professional network. 🔑 Advocacy/Community Engagement: Representing the fraternity's values and contributing to the broader community through service initiatives. As I step away from this role, I am eager and confident to apply this knowledge in the next chapter of my life, ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities with enthusiasm, determination, and a profound appreciation for the lessons learned.
