I'm a Product Marketing Leader with the ❤️ of a sales person. I made my first sales pitch at 13 years old if that isn't proof enough. Don't get me wrong, I'm not itching to go back. But, my time in sales will stay with me for two reasons: 1) It keeps me resilient and scrappy. For better or worse I do my best work when my back's against the wall. (My first job was in outside sales. Had to know 60 vendors inside and out + worked 7 days a week meeting clients at all hours of the day 😰) 2) I don't accept no for an answer. I'll always find a way to negotiate or network my way into the things I really want. 3) During my time in sales I fell in love with the process of tailoring the narrative and value of a business to unique buyer perspectives. Product Marketers, yes sales requests can be draining, but don't write them off. Building strong relationships with them is critical for several reasons the most important being: 🤔 No one knows your market and prospects better than them. They're on the front lines hearing directly from the source. ✍ You'll not find any better positioning and messaging partners. Shout out to Matt Grossbard for the hours he spent collaborating with me. 💡 They have phenomenal insights that you can bring to the table when product roadmap or GTM strategy planning. (Exp. the use cases your prospects will ACTUALLY use your product for). Shoutout to the amazing sales leaders who've helped shape my career over the last 12 years including Tom Moriarty Matt Deis Matt Grossbard Devanté Lewis-Jackson Micah Day John Ohrnberger Ryan Deitch Will Evans Also please enjoy this snap from 2014. My first tech sales gig and year working in NYC. #salesandmarketingalignment #productmarketing #productmarketinginsights

Do entry level marketing roles no longer exist? Particularly in B2B SaaS? And no, SDR / BDR may report into a marketing team but are not truly an entry level marketing role. With the demand to do more with less the true need for experienced hires is high, even in an economy with a large volume of marketers looking for roles. Largely many of those roles have extremely specific specialities, seeking 3-5 years of experience honing in on a unique skill set. In my opinion the best marketing leaders are those who understand a wide variety of marketing toolsets. Those who can can visualize how all of those tools work together to create a unified strategy. If we are no longer hiring marketing generalists, or lower level coordinators, how are people obtaining these skills? Are we dependent on entry level sales / success professionals who want to migrate from customer facing roles into marketing or operations positions? What does that do to the overall skills of a marketing team and the long term sustainability of the department across brand, events and demand? Where does that put us in 5-10 years? How are we working to fill an effective talent pipeline now to ensure we have strong leaders in the next decade of our businesses. Leaders need to start future proofing now to ensure we have talent ready to step up into manager, director and executive roles tomorrow.

🚀 We are hiring for a sales leader, tell all your friends 🥞 Seeking a VP of Sales to lead Stacker sales efforts and make me go umbrella shopping. JD linked in comments, but tl/dr, I want: 1) Someone that understands our customer and will take our process + pitch to the next level. Experience and rolodex from selling into content/marketing/pr at enterprise size brands is a big want, not necessarily a must-have. But I need confidence this person will push us forward in our understanding of customer problems, content marketing/PR trends, and where we fit in. 2) 80% team & process development, 20% rainmaker. You will be responsible for taking our sales team to the next level. You will also be responsible for setting the bar, and driving big conversations that I get to brag about to the company and my friends. 3) Understands the editorial nuance that is Stacker. Stacker is only as good as the content we source from partners - we are not a SaaS product that can be sold to every company with a corporate blog. My biggest fear is we bring in a rainmaker that can close deals, but doesn't understand the nuance of what makes a great long term customer that thrives on our platform. You do not need an editorial background, but you do need to have a real appreciation for media + journalism. JD + application link in comments. Spread the word. --- Fine print: best way to apply is through the link in comments (I am not the hiring manager!) - but if you do feel so compelled to reach out to me, best way ti impress me is to give me 3 bullets on why you meet the above criteria (or feel free to AMA!)

I've spent a good bit of time with tech AEs (the sales kind not the agency account exec kind) and sales leaders but this is the first time we've looked to hire one! Selling Enterprise Saas and specialist agency services might feel like very different things but they're surprisingly similar. - You need a great product that customers love (check). - You need brilliant marketing air cover (check - although this is most of what we do at Atomic so if we didn't do this right there would be something seriously wrong). - You need to be set up for success (check - the whole business will be supporting to make the AE smash their targets). As an SMB we might not fly you to Hawaii for SKO but there are lots of other benefits to being a key part of a tight ambitious team that has big growth aspirations (and sharing in that journey). If any of my network knows any Enterprise Account Executives that are ready to bring their selling skills to a different environment let me know! https://lnkd.in/gaFnvTFs
