📝 A long overdue post! 🇨🇳
Before setting off on our second #BITLASI International Ecosystem trip to #Shanghai, we were reminded to approach the experience with “open eyes, open hearts, and open minds.” 🌏 This advice proved invaluable as we learned to strip away Western assumptions, stereotypes, and even our usual approach to business.
The purpose of this journey was to explore the interplay between Western and Eastern cultures, dive deep into Chinese traditions, understand the intricacies of doing business in Asia, and uncover the latest trends shaping the region’s markets. 🚀
We had the privilege of learning from inspiring leaders, including Bob Ching, co-founder of Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in China, David San Roman, founder of ANKEN Group, José Antonio Morente Pérez, former Asia Pacific Managing Director of Suavinex and founder of 2open, and Oscar Olguin** at Dentons.
Additionally, our visit to the #CantonFair, the world’s largest import and export expo, offered a hands-on experience with logistics, supply chain management, and international trade negotiations. 🚢
The time in China left me with several key takeaways: 📌
1. Challenge what you know: Western liberal values aren't the only narrative, and propaganda exists everywhere. It's crucial to question what we've been taught and remain open to alternative perspectives. 🔄
2. Long-term thinking over short-term gain: While Western politics often emphasize short-term results, continuously shifting political agendas might do more harm than good, especially in a globally interconnected world. 📈
3. Opportunities are everywhere: Business opportunities are abundant when you're willing to listen, pay attention, and remain open to different ways of thinking. Success in unfamiliar markets demands adaptability and cultural sensitivity. 💡
A heartfelt thank you to Anxiang Yin, Markel Gibert Gutierrez, Amaia G., Mònica Casabayó, PhD Casabayo, my classmates, and the wonderful people of Shanghai for making this experience truly special. This city has left a lasting impact on me, and I know I’ll be back. ❤️

🌍 Klaipėda is updating its Economic Development Strategy, which was approved in 2018. The world has changed a lot since then, and we need to review our goals and plans to keep up with the new challenges after the pandemic.
📈 Our city has great potential, and we need faster changes to improve its economy. While some of the goals have already been reached, the current situation demands new solutions. We will analyze key areas such as education, innovation, business, tourism, and the relationship between the port and the city.
🚢 The KEPS 2030 strategy focuses on four important sectors: Maritime Economy, Bioeconomy, Advanced Industry, and Creative & Service Economies. We aim to make Klaipėda a better place for businesses, investors, and talent, with a modern education system that fits future needs.
This update will help us continue successful actions and adjust those that no longer work well. Together, we can choose the right path to make Klaipėda successful in the coming years! 💼

My last visit to Malaysia was 15 years ago for the Asian formalities of my wedding. 🌐 Thanks to Martine Letts, Group CEO of Asialink and the University of Melbourne for the invitation to join a roundtable discussion on Malaysia and ASEAN politics. The upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Special Summit in Melbourne signifies 50 years of strong relations between Malaysia and Australia. 🇲🇾 🇦🇺
Joined by speakers James Chin, Professor of Asian Studies at the University of Tasmania and Shannon Teoh, Malaysia Bureau Chief at The Straits Times, we explored the evolution of the Australia-Malaysia relationship, addressing contemporary opportunities and challenges. 🤔💬
Beyond politics, our conversation ventured into the dynamic Malaysian market, particularly the healthy shift in noodle preferences. 🍜 From whole grain to organic varieties, this trend significantly influences Australia's wheat exports to Malaysia, valued at US$381 million. 📈
📚 Another noteworthy economic export is Australia's thriving education sector, particularly in Perth, emerging as the preferred choice for Malaysian students. The shared time zone and proximity to Asia make it an ideal destination. 👩🎓🌏
Recalling my cross-campus studies at Monash University, where I pursued Banking and Finance at Caulfield and Law at Clayton, I encountered a vibrant mix of local ABCs (Australian Born Chinese) and international students. Many Malaysian peers were engaged in family businesses, studying abroad, and returning for top-tier training at the Big 4 Accounting Firms or Investment Banks before taking over their family enterprises. 🌐🏢
Great to learn about Asialink's upcoming program tailored for university students. 🚀🎓 This initiative, focused on nurturing the next generation, holds the promise of further strengthening ties between Australia and Malaysia. Kudos to Asialink for fostering collaboration and cross cultural relationships! 👏
What strategies could Universities and Governments adopt to continue building bridges and fostering economic ties across borders? 🤝✨ Share your thoughts in the comments below.

With Japan's technical prowess and Singapore's strategic position, we aim to transcend mere growth; we're setting a global benchmark in economic partnerships.
This collaboration is not just about economic integration. It represents a beacon for a new era of excellence and prosperity across the ASEAN market, home to 670 million people. Let's commit to this partnership, heralding unparalleled opportunities and setting a new standard for global economic collaboration.

It was a pleasure to connect with Vlerick Business School’s iGMO study mission of Belgian family businesses last week, to share about Singapore’s vibrant business landscape and opportunities for partnerships! 🇸🇬🇧🇪🤝
We had a lively discussion regarding some thought-provoking questions, such as:
1️⃣ “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱?”
Singapore’s superpower is its 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 — HQs, R&D, manufacturing, supply chain and logistics all within a closely-knit network, making it a hotbed for innovation and collaboration between East and West.
2️⃣ “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲?”
Singapore will need to navigate the complexities of 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 while ensuring 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆. Striking this balance will be crucial for continued prosperity and social stability.
3️⃣ “𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲?”
With our strategic location as 𝗮 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 and strong culture of efficiency and effectiveness, Singapore boosts strong manufacturing and R&D sectors, regional connectivity and seamless logistics, enhancing its appeal as a global business hub! 🌍
A big thank you to Business Families Institute at SMU for organizing this insightful exchange. Looking forward to more opportunities to collaborate and grow together! 💡🌱

Bringing Myanmar researchers & activists on trans border activism and Internet shutdowns together with Web3 public goods builders has been a year long effort that came together.
Living offline/offgrid due to pervasive surveillance, violence & Internet shutdowns is as much our future as a hyperconnected AI one.
It may even be one we chose.
Our hope is that decentralised tools and networks can give us building blocks for new institutions (e.g. usable money, identity, layers of privacy) outside of market and state.
Huge thanks to everyone who came out today and helped make the Digital Myanmar event—and the Un-College launch—a huge success! I believe we had around 80 people in attendance! We had participants from our local Digi-CNX group, Funding the Commons, H.E.R. DAO, 4Seas, and Edge. Did I miss anyone?
We’re excited about the opportunities that all these pop-up cities are creating—there’s a collection of experience, innovation, and energy coming together here in Chiang Mai!
Would you like to lead an Un-College session? Here’s the link: https://lnkd.in/gDVmiPQ3, or feel free to reach out to any of us.

A HUGE thanks to our speakers today, and a special shout-out to Public Works for sponsoring lunch!
We hope to see you all again over the next month!
