Some highlights from the article: 🔹 The Gulf is solidifying its position as a hub for F&B innovations, particularly in cloud kitchens and tech-driven services. 🔹 While 2021 saw $822M raised, funding dipped to $18M in 2023. However, H1 2024 shows signs of recovery with $36M raised across nine deals. 🔹 UAE leads the Gulf’s F&B scene with $993M since 2010, followed by Saudi Arabia at $309M. In 2023 we had our biggest test thus far. Are we really able to expand beyond our comfort zone? Have we built a 'scalable' product? Or have we localized too much? And the list goes on... To put our platform to test, we headed to none other than Saudi Arabia, and right to the center of the buzz, Riyadh. Turns out that unlocking a new market is a complete different ballgame. We’re yet to find answers to more questions, but the quest continues. In the meantime, here’s some numbers to put things in perspective 📈 ▪ In Bahrain, it took us 3 years to hit the 50,000 signups milestone. In Riyadh, it took us 6 months. ▪ In Bahrain, it took us 2 years to partner with 200 brands. In Riyadh, it took us 8 months. ▪ In Bahrain, we started generating revenue 2 years after launch. In Riyadh, it was from day 1. I usually accompany this type of post with a chart to help better visualize. However, this time there’s only 1 picture I want to link. It's the one I'm most proud of and my personal highlight. Starting 2023 with a team of 8 and ending it with 31 is the reason it became a year filled with breaking records! P.S. Not shying away from how many bumps we had on our way to Riyadh – literally & metaphorically – but 4 years in a startup and a bumpy road becomes the norm 😂 Unipal #Bahrain #Riyadh

A major mistake made by multinationals and startups trying to enter the Saudi market is assuming they fully understand it. Many build their Go-To-Market plans based on global research or insights from European and Middle Eastern markets in general. This approach often falls short. The Saudi market dynamics is unique. Its end users and their behavior are different to an extent that may shift the go-to-market strategy 180-degrees, affecting the messaging, target audience, and pricing. What non-Saudis often overlook is that the decision-making criteria in Saudi is different. Just imagine trying to sell a candy bar to a toddler—there is no understanding of the product, language, and even lack of purchasing power! I have recently spoken with few friends attempting to enter the market. When I asked them just a few questions, they realized they need to entirely revise their plans.
