Oh it’s all easy for nuclear scientists and civil engineers. They’ve got a very specific skill set, about which most people know only a little. And while our lives are absolutely impacted by their work every day, most of us don’t spend our time thinking ‘wow, they should have taken a different pathway with that radiation shielding.’ The problem for marketers is that everybody reads media, sees digital ads, drives past billboards, watches TV or attends events every single day. And that seemingly makes everyone an expert. My fourteen year old daughter (real life marketing and communications expertise: zero) constantly lectures me on how I should be marketing Boldsquare better, and if ever I share an idea with a friend, I can be sure I’ll get a few ‘notes’ on how to improve. All this is to say that marketers have to develop thick skins, and lean into the constructive feedback they get (even if it’s not always constructive). After all, great ideas can come from anywhere, even that fourteen year old… And otherwise, there’s always a career in quantum computing I guess.

🔸 'The Risks of AI in Nuclear Weapons - What Leaders Should be Focused On' As the summit between President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping provides much to ponder, the key takeaway lies beyond the adorable pandas- with both sides hinting at potential talks on the growing risks of artificial intelligence (AI). 🔸 It's a fascinating intersection- considering the marriage of AI with nuclear weapons, our first truly paradigm-altering technology. 🔸 While calls for a ban on AI in military systems are unlikely, key discussions center around responsible AI development and the need for a 'human-in-the-loop' in making life-and-death decisions, especially concerning nuclear-armed missiles. 🔸 The real concern here is not AI taking over the decision to use nuclear weapons, but rather leaders relying on AI for 'decision support,' which brings forth its own set of challenges. 🔸 The US and Chinese experts are set to delve into this critical matter in the coming days, navigating the complex landscape of AI's implications in nuclear war scenarios. In a world where AI's presence is ubiquitous, the focus shifts towards re-evaluating nuclear weapons postures that make sense, paving the way for responsible and informed decision-making. The interplay between AI and nuclear weapons poses significant questions- ones that demand thoughtful consideration and strategic planning for the future. #AI #nuclearweapons #summit #US #China #appliedintelligenceAssistant #AI #nuclearweapons #summit #US #China

I was asked a question about a comment I made in a post about #scientific rigor in #manufacturing. Really it's encompasses a much larger area than just manufacturing. For example: lack of scientific rigor in creating data that will be used to make decisions about when a system, vaccine, drug or product has met its requirements. Without getting too technical I can boil this down to just a few examples of what I was talking about. Separating "Signal" from "Noise". Think of noise as the common variation in a #system. A good example is your wheel alignment on your car. Under normal driving you don't feel any feedback from your wheels to your steering wheel. Think of that as common noise, just normal everyday variation. Now when your car starts to shank and you are getting feedback into the steering wheel then, you have something wrong. That is signal and it has a special cause. Now consider that all cars would shake if they could go fast enough. However, you have a requirement or specification that states there should be no noticeable shank in the car at speeds from 1 to 100 mph. So you met your requirement in one test run. Do you call that good or do you keep testing? How much more should you test? Lets call that sample size. We would call this power. Too few samples and you have less power or confidence in the results. You might perform other tests at different speeds and under different conditions. You do what's called a design of experiment. Setup and done correctly you would gain knowledge. Done wrong and your results could be incorrect and in some cases dangerous. So it takes scientific rigor to conduct the right tests and with the correct sample size to return correct and useful information. To separate signal from noise. In such a case you would come up with safe operating parameters or meet your requirement. You read in the news or see news reports about accidents where a system, vaccine, drug or product has failed. Unfortunately, too few understand scientific rigor and it's importance. For me I wonder was the testing done correctly was there a big enough sample size to set the correct parameters. So this is what I mean about scientific rigor! No matter what industry you might be considering. This also applies in monitoring a system. Think power plant, #nuclear reactor, water supply. Is what I'm monitoring showing Signal or Noise! You better hope that scientific rigor is in force.
