By the time I joined Wistia, they'd generated hundreds of thousands of free users and tens of thousands of paying customers - with no sales team. 100% touchless. As a growth nerd, I loved it. But something interesting was happening. People were writing in with questions. Some specifically asked to speak with a salesperson. Some asked basic questions about how the product worked. Some had complex use cases and wanted to see if the product would be a fit. At first, a small team of CS folks fielded these questions. But they eventually morphed into a sophisticated (and very successful) product-led sales team. They had a badass self-service engine. Then layered on product-led sales. Unfortunately, I see the opposite playbook more often. IE a company has a sales team that's used owning every signup. Then tries to make major changes to their lead flow, incentive structure, and their operating system to become more product-led/ sales-assisted. That's way harder.

I thought wow, that’s fancy stuff they are doing and I liked the Optris atmosphere from the beginning. It felt like being there already for years. They welcomed me very open and friendly. 🌡️ What are your main responsibilities? I am the head of sales. So I am responsible for a good distribution of our products. Our Sales team is active in the market every day. We are in very close contact with our distribution partners to increase the market presence and to discover and build up new markets. 🌡️ What do you like the most about your job? And why? Sometimes it is like living on the Discovery Channel. Every day you see new applications from different industries. Temperature is everywhere that’s why it never gets boring. One day you are standing next to a blast furnace in a steel plant and the day after you may help to improve a machine for silicon wafer production. Whoever could untie a knot tied between two wagons at the village of Gordion would become the ruler of Asia.
