As we gear up to celebrate National Safety Day on March 4th, let's embrace this year's powerful theme: "Nurture young minds - Develop safety culture." It's a call to action for each of us to play an integral role in fostering a safety-first mindset among the younger generation, laying the foundation for a safer future. 🔍 Why It Matters: Cultivating Awareness: Educating young minds about safety from an early age instills lifelong habits of caution and care. Building a Culture: A collective effort towards nurturing a safety culture today paves the way for a secure tomorrow. Empowering Change: When we empower our youth with knowledge and practices of safety, we're investing in a future where well-being is prioritized. 🌱 Let's Make a Difference: This National Safety Day, let's commit to nurturing young minds by sharing knowledge, best practices, and fostering an environment where safety is at the forefront of everything we do. Whether it's at home, in schools, or within our communities, every effort counts. 💡 Engage and Inspire: Organize Safety Workshops: Engage with schools and community centers to host interactive safety workshops. Create Awareness Campaigns: Use social media or local community boards to share safety tips and information. Lead by Example: Demonstrate safe practices in everyday life – your actions can inspire others. 🤝 Join the Movement: We all have a role to play in developing a robust safety culture. Let's unite this National Safety Day to nurture our young minds with the principles of safety and health. Share your plans, activities, or thoughts on how we can collectively make a difference. #NationalSafetyDay #SafetyFirst #NurtureYoungMinds #DevelopSafetyCulture #SafetyAwareness

You don’t know what you don’t know." That phrase hits home for me—it's a reminder of the countless ways we can make our world safer, starting with education. As an event safety advocate, I'm on a mission to spread awareness and empower everyone to prioritise safety. Whether you're organising an event or attending one, understanding potential risks is key. Think about the venue: Are there open spaces, dense crowds, or remote areas with poor signal? Identifying these risks is the first step towards mitigating them. For event organisers, introducing safeguarding measures can make a world of difference. And as an attendee, consider assembling an emergency kit—just in case. Safety isn't just your priority, it should be everyone's. That's why I've compiled resources on my LinkedIn to support both event organisers and attendees alike. Let's work together to ensure every event is not only memorable but also safe for everyone involved. Because when it comes to safety, knowledge is power. #EventSafety #StaySafe #PrioritiseSafety #Empowerment

A recent video capturing a farm worker’s unexpected encounter serves as a vivid reminder of the need for comprehensive awareness in all workplace environments. In the footage, the worker, moving from one holding pen to another and ignoring the sheep within, is taken by surprise when a large sheep charges and knocks him over. This incident, while it might provoke thoughts of needing "eyes in the back of your head," truly underscores a more critical point: the necessity of analysing and acknowledging potential risks in our surroundings. The worker’s oversight of the sheep, particularly the protective instincts of the female sheep towards their lambs, resulted in a painful lesson. His desire for a shortcut blinded him to the clear signs of potential danger, illustrating how easily we can overlook risks in pursuit of efficiency or convenience. At Safetyman Academy, we understand that true safety awareness encompasses more than just the visible threats; it involves anticipating the unforeseen and fostering an environment where caution and preparedness are second nature. Our suite of over 155 online CPD certified training courses is specifically designed to build this kind of comprehensive safety mindset. By combining technical knowledge with a focus on ethical considerations, we aim to empower individuals to navigate their workspaces safely, effectively managing risks and avoiding hazards. Recognizing the global scale of the workforce, we have made our courses accessible in 60 languages. This initiative ensures that quality safety education is available to all, reinforcing our belief in the universal right to learn how to protect oneself and others in the workplace. The incident in the pen is more than just a cautionary tale; it's a call to action. It highlights the importance of maintaining a 360° awareness in any work environment, recognizing that threats to our safety can come from any direction, at any time. We invite you to explore the training options available at Safetyman Academy. Whether you're seeking to enhance your personal safety skills or to elevate your team's overall safety consciousness, we offer solutions that cater to diverse needs and learning styles. We kickstart Netsafety Week 2024 with the launch of this important piece of research - Netsafe and NZ Classification Office | Te Mana Whakaatu partnered to deliver this work that aims to help us understand the complex online experiences influencing the mental and emotional wellbeing of young people in Aotearoa New Zealand, as told to us directly by rangatahi. When age is reported to Netsafe in our online harm reports, on average 12.67% feature teenagers as the target of the online harm. However, the youth voice has largely been missing from the advocacy discourse in New Zealand. We feel it is vital that the views of young people are heard because their experience growing up in a digital age is different to those in positions of power. Both organisations now want to share these findings with young people, parents and schools, for their benefit. The issues and suggestions raised by the research participants will be used to inform new harm prevention and remediation support materials for young people in relation to social media, body image and wellbeing. Thank you to all of the young New Zealanders who participated in this research. Your voices are invaluable. You can read the final report and the summary report on our website here: https://lnkd.in/eUMrvMBV (and see what's happening the rest of this Netsafety Week).
