We’re heading for the bank holiday season! 😎 A few pointers for you: 👉 Whether an employee must work on bank holidays is up to their employer, but should be written into their contract of employment. 👉 You don’t automatically have to pay employees extra if they do work on a bank holiday, again this should be in contract. 👉 If your employees do work on a bank holiday, you need to give them an alternative day off later in the year. 👉 Many employers are adopting a flexible approach to bank holidays—allowing staff to swap some days, for example, for religious reasons, to use their bank holidays at an alternative time of the year. 👉 Be clear and up front about the expectations for working bank holidays, and about the company stance on pay or time off in lieu. #bankholidaypolicy #bankholidaypay #willowhr
