The rise and influence of #Afrobeats music in the US and around the world has been amazing to witness. There are many reasons why Afrobeats music has become popular in the US; one reason being the coming of age of the children of African immigrants who settled in the US in the 1970s and 1980s who are now using the internet to form connections with their countries of heritage. In my study on the children of Ghanaian immigrants, social media and music were the most popular media forms participants used to maintain their ties to Ghana. Afrobeats parties like the ones mentioned in this article show the strength of cultural ties among younger segments of the African diaspora, and how economies are being created based on these ties. #Africa #diaspora #migration #music

This linkage regarding whole economies being built of the cultural ties of diaspora members is spot on! Thanks for your take on this article Kirstie.
