In 2021, we created the "Nessebar Public Council", we are the voice of the united civil society. In 2023 we are already officially registered as an NGO. In achieving this success, we realized the potential of a united civil society. Today there are already thousands of us, we are active and have many initiatives and successes behind us. More and more citizens are afraid to express their opinion, report irregularities, make suggestions and participate in solving the problems of our society. Thanks to our joint efforts, the voice of civil society is heard both in the municipality and outside its borders. Daily work with the institutions required us to grow into a legitimate, civil organization. This is how we founded a non-profit association "Public Council Nessebar". Our association stood on clear principles, behind which each of the members stood. Our mission is clear - governance with an emphasis on civil society and its participation in public processes; informing the public about proposals, work and decisions; eliminating double standards and patronage; a clear vision for the development of the municipality - long-term, sustainable, perspective. In the intricate tapestry of democratic administration, public councils serve as critical channels for citizen involvement and engagement. These councils, also known as public advisory bodies or citizen councils, serve a variety of functions, including reflecting community interests, encouraging public participation, and guaranteeing openness in decision-making. One of the primary objectives of public councils is to give helpful advice and suggestions to government authorities. These bodies, which draw on the different viewpoints and skills of council members, provide insights that can help guide policy creation and decision-making. Public councils serve as advisory bodies, contributing to a more inclusive and well-rounded decision-making process that considers the community's needs and concerns. #public #council #ourmission #nessebar #bulgaria

Thank you Ubele Initiative for convening a community conversation on Monday about the racist and Islamophobic violence that has threatened the safety and dignity of our communities. The call for more and sustained investment in grassroots and community-based organisations echoes messages set out in https://lnkd.in/e94-skQ3 But it is a message that still needs to be more widely understood and responded to. Research shows that most funders see racial justice work as ‘too risky’; many shy away from supporting work on root causes; and there is very limited long-term commitment to substantive racial justice strategies or to grass-roots community organising: 'Funding Justice 2 analysed over £950 million worth of grants. It found that just 5.7% of UK foundation giving in 2021/22 went towards work to tackle injustice [and] 0.3% …. went towards building people power through organising. This is despite growing recognition that “community organising and local power building is simultaneously one of the best and one of the most under-resourced mechanisms we have to shift power to and secure just outcomes for (and with) communities”.’ (Baring, E. and Cracknell, J. (2023) Funding Justice: An analysis of social justice grantmaking in the UK, 2021-2022, Civic Power Fund.) There is also a risk in these moments that too many individual funders turn to their grantees to ask what would be most helpful, at a time when they are responding to crisis. We encourage funders to tap into wider conversations: ➡ Migration Exchange (MEX) convened people identifying as having lived experience of the migration system and working in the migration field to share their thoughts and demands for change: https://lnkd.in/e86EMiBg ➡ Fozia Irfan OBE's key points following a call attended by over 50 trusts & foundations: https://lnkd.in/e3qHNXZg

FIRST PROJECT AIMS In Europe, the importance of the #thirdsector is increasingly being acknowledged, from various points of view, however, there is still room for improvement. Since 2004… We Cambridgeshire Community Foundation have awarded over £32 million through 10,000+ grants. We have supported thousands of organisations, including charities, community groups, schools and sports clubs. They have made a positive difference to hundreds of thousands of people. We have funded projects in every ward in Cambridgeshire. You can learn more about our impact in a new 20-year impact report and most importantly see some of the work of the incredible charities and community groups that make all the difference, especially for those facing the biggest challenges and disadvantage. Whilst I am proud to reflect on what has been achieved, our new Vital Signs report shows that there is still much, very much more to be done. For a brilliantly successful County like Cambridgeshire we can see that the gap between the wealthier and the more deprived districts has widened in the last decade. In our cities, there are stark inequalities relating to income, education, and health between the most and least deprived wards. In Cambridge, there is a 12 year difference in life expectancy between the most and least deprived people! In a County, world-renowned for education, we are below the national average in indicators of early years development and school engagement. Poor outcomes for children eligible for free school meals reflect the impact of deprivation on education and sadly, later life prospects. If you or your business is interested to help people in your community through philanthropy and placed-based grant-making - please do get in touch. https://lnkd.in/dqipYz45

Think stories are just for children? Think again. When a CEO, marketing or fundraising director truly understands the power of story, the trajectory of their organisation is changed. Stories are at the heart of everything we are. Stories make community possible and alter the direction of countries. The city in which you live, the £10 note in your wallet, the group of people you work with every day - all of these things have meaning because they are connected by a story. And the story teller created the meaning. Such is the power of the story teller. Come and learn why stories matter, and how you can craft your story, or the story of your organisation. 𝐏𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 Many of you will know Alan in Guildford. He's usually the fella working behind the scenes at the theatre, volunteering at a centre or offering to support great causes within the community. At the moment he's galvanising support on a very exciting project - one that has been in the fires for some time - and it's almost there. Great to have him pop in last week and say hello. Alan certainly came armed with lists! #DeliveredSocial #SocialClinics #SocialMediaClinics #SocialMediaMarketing #SocialMediaTraining #BusinessMarketing #BusinessAdvice #BusinessGrowth #BusinessTips #MarketingTips #SocialMediaforBusiness #SMEMarketing #Clients #ClientMeetings

This week the Chronicle of Philanthropy introduced #TheCommons, a digital space to explore how America’s nonprofits and foundations are working to heal the nation’s divides and build community. With guest essays from leaders in the nonprofit and philanthropy sector, we are looking at how the country is splintered along political lines but also by income, race, geography, culture, and more — division that can threaten progress and even the nation’s stability. Organizations nationwide are bringing communities together and getting things done. We’ll look at potential solutions and examine how philanthropy can do more — and how it can avoid creating or deepening fissures. We named our new project The Commons to reflect our goal: to create a home where people come together to learn, share ideas, and gain new perspective. We invite you to explore the essays and perspectives shared throughout The Commons and to join the conversation in our LinkedIn group is which is an extension of that mission. https://lnkd.in/ejrTrw88
