The longer a septic tank is left between empties, the higher the sludge layer gets at the base of the tank. When this occurs, it reduces the capacity inside the tank (above the sludge layer) for essential separation to take place. If the separation process can't take place correctly, then matter, that should always be retained inside the tank, will be allowed to exit the tank. If the tank is served by a drainage field or soakaway, the lifespan of such will be shortened and if the tank is discharging to a ditch or stream (which is non-compliant anyway), it will be polluting. Septic tanks MUST be regularly emptied for this ⬆ reason. Please challenge the person who ever repeats the opening two lines of this post to you. When I speak of water security, I often speak of desalination but, in reality, there's also another powerful technique in our arsenal — managed aquifer recharge (MAR). In short, MAR stores water underground in natural reservoirs, using infiltration ponds to recharge unconfined aquifers, or injection wells to recharge deeper confined aquifers. It has already proved successful! Plus it can store natural surface or groundwater, AND recycled water (stormwater, industrial or wastewater) or desalinated seawater.
