Delayed Coking in petroleum industry This unit in petroleum industry used for change low value heavy feedstock to high value light products. Heavy feedstock is fed to a fractionator, bottoms of fractionator fed to coker drums via a furnace where the hot material (440-500°C) is held approximately 24 hours (delayed) at pressures of 2-5 bar, until it cracks into lighter products. Vapors from the drums are returned to a fractionator where gas, naphtha, and gas oils separated out, heavier hydrocarbons produced in the fractionator are recycled through the furnace. Process completely reduces hydrogen so that residue is a form of carbon called "coke." Three typical types of coke obtained (sponge coke, honeycomb coke, and needle coke) depending upon reaction mechanism, time, temperature, and crude feedstock. After coke (coke not the targed product, its by-product) reaches predetermined level in one drum, flow diverted to another drum to maintain continuous operation, full drum steam to strip out un-cracked hydrocarbons, cooled by water injection, and de-coked by mechanical or hydraulic methods, coke is mechanically removed by an auger rising from bottom of drum. Hydraulic decoking consists of fracturing coke bed with high-pressure water ejected from a rotating cutter. Feedstock specification very important to prevent formation of fouling: - High sodium / asphaltenes - Incompatible crude blends / Test for compatibility - Minimize injection of caustic downstream of desalter - Ensure crude is well desalted - High softening point feeds may need diluent - Add aromatic feedstock (slurry / decant oil) to heavy oil residues to dilute fouling - Limit feedstock sodium to 10 wppm max Coke Morphology Shot coke - High asphaltene feedstock - Low pressure / low recycle - Max liquid / min coke yields - CCR / nC7 < 2 , 30-50 HGI - Fuel grade Sponge coke - Low asphaltene feedstock - High pressure / moderate recycle - Lower liquid / higher coke yield - 40-70 (Hvy) / 70-100 (Lt) HGI - Fuel / anode grade Needle coke - Low asphaltene feedstock / aromatic tar - Very high pressure / high recycle - 70-110 HGI - Coke production operation - Electric grade

[#Insight] #Isomerization can open up a world of opportunities for a more sustainable refining industry. 💡 Our experts Gabriel Buffin, Bijay BARIK and Laurent Watripont share more in this article first published in Hydrocarbon Engineering. In most regions of the world, demand for more and for higher-quality gasoline and petrochemicals has experienced steady growth. 📈 Isomerization remains the main technology driver for upgrading light #hydrocarbon streams (C4-C6) in refineries and petrochemical plants. ✅ C4 isomerization technology prepares feedstock for the alkylation process, producing gasoline pool blending stock. C5-C6 light naphtha isomerisation technology plays a key role in meeting octane demand in the #gasoline pool for cleaner fuels and premium gasoline grades. ➡️ Find the full article here: https://hubs.ly/Q02xc6M90

Over 300 AHLSTAR and SNS pumps contribute to producing corn ethanol in a full range of applications 🙌🌽 Reliability and efficiency were considered core features for pumping equipment at FS Fueling Sustainability plant at Lucas do Rio Verde, Mato Grosso, which is considered the most modern and efficient corn ethanol plant in the world. The pump selection involved challenges set by complex liquids that have high solids contents, and can be viscous, corrosive, hot, erosive, or explosive. This case study serves a great example on how to combine the optimum hydraulics with the right materials of construction and the correct sealing systems to ensure the pumps' efficient and continuous performance. 👉Read the case study here: https://brnw.ch/21wE79k #biofuel #sustainability #cornethanol #biofuels #hydaulics

« CBAM continues to be a source of contention and dispute among the corporate community. It is also clear that there is much ambiguity over the right approach for importers to submit their emissions to European Union bodies. There is valid worry about the absence of correct information, which forces importers to depend on possibly deceptive data for reporting reasons. Concerns have been raised about the capacity and desire of CBAM product manufacturers to provide the necessary data and correctly compute emissions. Furthermore, it is typical for importers to get items via wholesalers, who in turn obtain them from the open market. As a result, locating and monitoring the origin of the CBAM product is a considerable difficulty. The difficulty in determining the original manufacturer raises concerns regarding the practicality of such an undertaking. The failure of importers to complete proper reports on January 31, 2024 is related to the many outstanding issues. The European Union must act decisively while yet allowing for more time. »
