Corporate action on climate change is expanding the environmental monitoring market, with voluntary carbon offset market tools, climate risk analytics, environmental monitoring solutions and services for businesses emerging. However, climate risk and resilience continue to see underinvestment. See how RainbirdGEO are democratizing climate risk solutions with satellite technology in Alex Crutchfield's latest perspective: https://hubs.li/Q02t7MP70

I just finished reading "The Big Fix" by Hal Harvey and Justin Gillis- a proposed roadmap for addressing climate change through market-based solutions. Here are my top 3 takeaways: Putting a price on carbon: is essential to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By making it more expensive to emit carbon, we can incentivize the development and adoption of clean energy technologies. The Potential of Innovation: Highlighting the critical role of innovation in tackling climate change, from developing advanced batteries to creating carbon-negative concrete, technological advancements can help us transition to a low-carbon economy. Political will is necessary: to implement effective climate policies. By building broad-based support for climate action, we can create a more sustainable future for all. This book is a relevant and comprehensive take on both climate change and environmental policy. The case for market-based solutions and framework for addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time is top notch.

In our rapidly evolving world, precise environmental monitoring is vital for understanding and addressing the pressing challenges of climate change, as environmental data serves as a crucial resource, providing the insights needed to identify trends, assess risks, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. In our latest blog [https://lnkd.in/gNYPt9eP], we explore two vital data types for environmental monitoring: hyperlocal climate data and satellite data. Each serves unique functions and offers distinct advantages. 👉 Read the full blog to learn more! https://lnkd.in/gNYPt9eP

🌎 🔎 “To Accelerate Climate Action, We Need to Talk About Lobbying” Read the words of InfluenceMap's Dylan Tanner and We Mean Business Coalition's Andrew Prag in the Financial Times' Sustainable Views this week – 🗣 “Ensuring proactive and science-aligned climate policy engagement is an essential part of a smart business approach to climate action. Companies with the necessary resources and presence of mind can pre-empt future regulatory requirements and meet investor expectations with robust disclosure now, but governments have a huge role to play in making it easy for all companies to do so.” For us, it's a huge privilege to have space in the packed media landscape to lay out - 🚀 what we’re striving for 🌱 why it’s fundamental to reaching science-aligned targets 🤝 and how we think government and businesses can work together to get there Even in the time since this piece was written, we have seen more momentum in favor of change. Namely, in the publication of Exponential Roadmap Initiative's 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞 which we were so pleased to be able to support with our data and resources. This guide will be invaluable for companies who want to be those ‘first movers’ and align the associations they’re members of with strong climate ambition. The next steps must be incorporating the existing benchmarks and best practice guides into binding frameworks that are recognized nationally and internationally. As the article concludes: “Given the irrefutable benefits to business and the planet, governments have no excuse not to step up to the regulatory challenge.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eFmXa5G5 Read the Business Association’s Climate Action Guide: https://lnkd.in/ewCvf8e2

I hope there will be more discussions on global climate issues in Davos, including how to better establish industrial chains, achieve true environmental protection, and raise people’s awareness of environmental protection. #climate #cleanenergy#energyinvestment #Cynthia Christie

Listening intently to Minister Simón Watts’ keynote speech at the FSC Climate Change Breakfast this morning. Good to hear the Coaltion Government’s continuing commitment to meeting NZ’s existing obligations under the Paris Accord - though am wondering how to reconcile that with the Minister of Agriculture’s comments on RNZ this morning. The Government sees Climate Adaptation as well as Mitigation as one of the 3 key areas it needs to address in this term as outlined in the Prime Minister’s statement alongside the Economy and Social Issues. Under that the initiatives fall under 5 points: 1 Resilient Infrastructure 2 Clean Energy 3 Nature-based Solutions 4 Climate Tech Innovation 5 Credible Markets.

🚨 📣 InfluenceMap just published its latest Deep Dive Newsletter. It includes new analysis on how industry players in the EU have been using pro-business narratives to undermine climate policy ambition since 2020 - including throughout the European Election period and the setting of the 2024-2029 European Policy Agenda. In September, Mario Draghi's Future of Competitiveness report highlighted how coordinated policies supporting ambitious climate targets could bolster competitiveness for Europe - however, InfluenceMap analysis shows influential industry groups consistently advocating that further climate policy and regulation will make the EU less competitive. The same groups have supported increased investment in European industry but based on vague climate criteria. Based on similar patterns InfluenceMap has tracked in advocacy on the Inflation Reduction Act in the US and the GX policy in Japan, there is a clear risk that these narratives could successfully be used to water down key climate regulations in future technology spending packages, allowing for continued reliance on fossil fuels. I rearranged my schedule to join a webinar this morning: "Funding Beyond Value Chain Mitigation - Step by step guidance for organisations" and I am so glad I did! I especially enjoyed Robert Höglund's suggestion for how to think about the types of climate action to fund (picture below). As well, the candid discussion around the "reputational and legal risks" of framing company climate strategy purely around compensating for emissions through low-cost offsets to back up carbon neutral claims. Energy and consensus continues to build for taking a contribution approach to setting climate action strategy. For businesses who have been yearning for some institutional permission or support to back up their desire to support climate innovations like carbon removal technologies and sustainable aviation fuel now, check out the Beyond Value Chain Mitigation guidance at https://lnkd.in/gbkyQiWB
