How time flies! Twelve years ago, I emphasized that ending TB hinges on three critical pillars for access: a robust health system, active community engagement, and comprehensive private sector involvement. Today, I remain steadfast in this belief. To end TB, we must: 1. Strengthen Health Systems: Invest in and fortify health infrastructure, ensuring accessibility, quality care, and advanced diagnostic tools for all. Enhance Community Engagement and Structures: 2. Empower communities through education, support networks, and local health initiatives, fostering ownership and proactive TB prevention and care: 3. Scale Up Private Sector Engagement: Leverage the capabilities of the private sector, fostering partnerships that bring innovation, resources, and efficiency to TB prevention and treatment efforts. By prioritizing these pillars, we can create a formidable strategy to finally end TB.

The future of #seniorcare requires that we provide them with the tools for #healthyaging, the services to #ageinplace and the connections to #ageincommunity which are a key focus of the navigation project. #proudmoment

Coming soon! Excited to share a preview of Chapter 18, Testing and Tracing in the “World’s Capital”, in our upcoming book The Covid-19 Response in New York City. Johnson, MD, MBA, Steffen Foerster, Theodore Long, MD, MHS, MD, MHS! NYC Health + Hospitals stood up the largest-scale testing and tracing operation in the country. With 5,000 workers and a 24/7 operation, Test and Trace (T2) was instrumental in keeping people healthy and safe, and getting New York City back to normal operations. T2 started a massive undertaking of community engagement, reaching out to New Yorkers to provide COVID-19 assistance in all forms and facets, from mobile testing units to isolation hotels for those unable to safely isolate at home, to wraparound services and connection to healthcare services, and much more. Taking into account the unique makeup of NYC, the immigrant population, the disproportionate impact on people of color, and the significant burden of disease and death, T2 rose to the challenge to encompass every aspect of this daunting situation. I am excited to share NACCHO's 2022 Profile Study report! This report is the largest and most reliable data source on local health department infrastructure and practice. Between 2008 and 2019, the public health workforce saw significant declines in the number of employees at local health departments (LHD). However, new data from the 2022 National Profile show the LHD workforce grew by 19% after an influx of funding during the pandemic. At the time data were collected, federal funding from several major pieces of legislation were available to support the public health response to COVID-19, including the CARES Act, the American Rescue Plan Act, and the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. These laws provided billions of dollars for the public health response and were critical resources to address the emergency phase of the pandemic, but that funding has not been extended by Congress. These staffing increases are short-lived without additional, long-term investment in local public health. A recent GAO report indicates that LHDs are concerned that many of these positions are time-limited because they are based on short-term emergency funding. And as we look to the Future of Public Health on Sunday, we envision a world where equity, accessibility, and innovation are at the forefront of our efforts. Let's extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated public health professionals who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being of our communities.
