My friend Shashi Jain wrote an impassioned post to those impacted by Intel Corporation layoffs with five pieces of advice on navigating the path ahead. He was spot on in talking about adjusting your mindset, leaning on people in your network and making sure to take time for you. It sucks to see chapters close that weren't under your control but what if they next chapter is one your grandkids are going to talk about? A recent study by Clarify Capital followed tech workers laid off during the pandemic and found some fascinating insights; - 63% of those laid off started their own businesses - 93% of those businesses started competed directly with their past employer;) - $13,000 increase in income since be laid off - 58% felt they had better job security today than before they were laid off This study and the countless examples that I have seen in my career (I was laid off once myself) make me feel that your next chapters will likely be better than the one you had at Intel. For those of you thinking about moving on that idea you have had in your mind for years or taking that side hustle you have and turning into Intel's next big competitor please let me know how Jelani Memory and I can help over at Vanport Studio. We are rooting for you. Scott Hanselman Corey Frazier, Ph.D., PE Yoseph Ukbazghi Ed Halla Damola ‘D’ O. Rick Turoczy

One telling story from the book? A look at Sprite's famous "Obey Your Thirst" campaign illustrates this point... Collins recalls the campaign as "owning the '90s because of its nuanced understanding of hip-hop culture. About 20 years later, the meaning of being "thirsty" shifted: It's now used by younger people to describe someone who is desperate for attention, particularly from a love interest. So when Sprite created a new campaign that declared the brand was "Only for the Thirsty," it was a predictable flop. --- Excerpt from the book For The Culture: The Power Behind What We Buy, What We Do, And Who We Want To Be by Dr. Marcus Collins. Good read. He argues that culture is the most powerful force driving consumer behavior, and explains how business leaders can use cultural understanding to influence action. Similar--but different--in many ways to "Contagious" by Jonah Berger. 🚀 Tired of blending in? It's time to DOMINATE your market! 💥 Forget playing nice - positioning is a battle for the mind, and you're here to win. 🏆 Think Apple vs. PC. Coke vs. Pepsi. You vs. Obscurity. Your competitors are shouting into the void. But you? You're about to become the signal in the noise. 3 Guerrilla Tactics to Crush Your Competition: 1. Occupy the High Ground: Don't just differentiate. ELEVATE. Be the premium choice, the thought leader, the innovator. Make them look outdated. 2. Weaponize Your Uniqueness: What makes you weird? OWN IT. Your quirks are your secret weapon. They can't copy what they can't understand. 3. Create Category of One: Redefine the game. Don't be the best player - be the only player. Netflix didn't beat Blockbuster. It made Blockbuster irrelevant. Remember: In the jungle of business, you're either the predator or the prey. 🌟 Reflecting on a Powerful Insight from Craig Barrett, Former CEO of Intel Corporation Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the Ruebling Round Table, an enriching experience where we were joined by none other than Craig Barrett, ex-CEO of Intel and a former professor at Thunderbird. It was an opportunity to glean wisdom from a leader who has been at the forefront of innovation and education. One of the most striking insights he shared was about the value of action over planning: "A small deed done is better than a great deed planned." This simple yet profound advice resonates deeply with me, especially in today’s fast-paced world where action often speaks louder than intentions. As professionals, we often find ourselves in the trap of over-planning or waiting for the 'perfect moment' to start on our goals. Craig’s words are a timely reminder of the power of taking immediate action and the impact of small, consistent steps towards achieving our ambitions. Let’s challenge ourselves to shift from planning to doing. Whether it’s a project we've been postponing or a new skill we’ve been planning to learn, let’s make a move today. After all, the smallest step in the right direction can be the biggest step of your life. #Leadership #Motivation #Intel #CraigBarrett #BusinessInsights #TakeAction

Aspiring Corporate Coach | Leadership Development | Organizational Culture | Mobile Networks & Customer Experience
There's no such thing as a Cautious Creative. Creatives and innovators take risks. They have skin in the game. They may fail. They may crash and burn. But occasionally they will create something so remarkable and influential that becomes life changing. If you try, you may succeed. But if you don't try, you will definitely fail. It's like that Apple ad for Think Different: "Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do." -- Steve Jobs #creativity #innovation #genius #stevejobs #quote #skininthegame

Owner of Savannah Bananas, Creator of Banana Ball, Author of Fans First & Find Your Yellow Tux, Keynote Speaker
What's It Gonna Take? That was the one question I shared with our entire team and staff before the largest game in Banana Ball History in Philadelphia. It's a question that the Phillies asked in trying to secure our appearance in 2024. And it's been a question that we've asked since Day 1 with the Savannah Bananas. It's an important question because it focuses on the solution and not just the problem. I've realized that every organization has problem finders, but it's the problem solvers that make a business succeed. With our organization, we are fortunate that we've had problem solvers in every department since we launched our team in 2016. We've faced numerous challenges and adversity and our share of problems along the way. From arriving in Savannah with the phone lines and internet lines cut in our office and everything taken out of the stadium, to not being able to sell tickets to anyone our first few months, to trying to figure out how to serve all you can eat to all of our fans, to trying to figure out how to do all of our merchandise in house, to bringing our broadcast in house and launching our own ticket platform with no ticket fees, service fees and convenience fees. We've had to figure it out daily and do whatever it takes to get it done. That all came before creating Banana Ball and trying to figure out how to play our new game, bring it to new cities, and eventually how to deliver shows at MLB stadiums. We've had to ask, "What's It Gonna Take?" every step of the way. And as we finish this season, I wanted the group to ask that question again when it came to delivering our best shows and the best experience for our fans. No matter how many games we've played and how many shows we've produced, it's always someone's first game and our fans deserved the best shows possible. My goal was to inspire our group to bring the most fun and energy and be the most fans first we've ever been. I was fired up during this talk. I may have preached a little too much. But I'm so passionate about being fans first and wowing our fans, that I don't ever want to let up, or let us to take our jobs for granted. After the game, I'm proud to say that I believe our entire organization gave our all and did deliver one of the best shows and experiences we have all tour. But we're not done yet...we will keep asking that question and more importantly we will keep doing whatever it takes to get it right for our fans.

Dare to hear 'no' and you'll be surprised by the 'yes's' you receive. ✅ Albert Einstein: Einstein was initially considered a slow learner and expelled from school. His early work on the theory of relativity was initially ignored and met with skepticism, but he persisted, and it eventually was accepted and revolutionized modern physics. ✅ Walt Disney: Fired from a newspaper for "lacking imagination" and facing numerous business failures, Disney went on to create the iconic Disney brand, now beloved by millions worldwide. ✅ Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba: Rejected from dozens of jobs, including KFC, Jack Ma faced countless "no's" before creating Alibaba, now one of the world's largest e-commerce companies. ✅ Sarah Blakely, founder of Spanx: She faced multiple rejections from manufacturers and investors before finally getting her product accepted, made and turning Spanx into a billion-dollar company. By risking a "no," you open the door to opportunities you never imagined. The next time you're faced with a challenge, remember: each "no" is just a stepping stone to your next "yes." #takerisks #perseverance #overcomeobstacles #successstories #nevergiveup #inspiration #motivation #resilience #innovation #growthmindset

Are you all in? If you’re going to “Exceptionalize It!”, you must be fully committed. A half-hearted effort will yield half-hearted results. Lior Arussy, ImprintCX Chairman and co-founder, describes the moment that a Vegas gambler decides to put in all his chips is the “moment that changes everything… It’s a moment of excitement. You can feel it in the air.” What makes this so exciting? Large bets can yield big wins. Likewise, when you fully commit to being EXCEPTIONAL, your efforts will be rewarded. Lior emphatically states, “You need to create your strategy to Exceptionalize It! That strategy must reflect a total commitment to elevating your performance to an exceptional level. You need to go 'all in.'" #CX #CXStrategy #Exceptional
