The American Cancer Society announced yesterday that the five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer has now increased to 13%.... and this is GOOD news! I know a 13% survival rate for 5 years doesn't seem good, but it was only 11% when my mom was diagnosed 4 years ago. After lung and colon cancer, pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S, with the highest mortality rate of all the major cancers. That 2% increase in survival rates in the last 4 years is just one of the reasons that I will continue to walk in the PanCAN PurpleStride walk and raise money this year. Through better education, research, and patient resources they are hopeful that they can raise that five-year survival rate to 20% by 2030.
