🌍♻️ At Knot Standard we’re always looking for ways to contribute to sustainability and support initiatives that align with our values. This week, our team partnered with FABSCRAP to help recycle and prepare fabric for reuse! It was a great experience working with FabScrap, and we had a great time sorting materials, learning about the impact of textile waste, and being part of the solution. 🌍♻️

The end of the year is approaching but very interesting events are still on the agenda for 2024! Today and tomorrow, our colleague Manon Marlier is participating in the AMI event "Recycling Flexible Packaging" in Vienna. Many experts of the value chain will present: - market and legislative trends, with a focus on PPWR targets, which are very challenging for flexible packaging - recycling technologies to tackle specific challenges - design for recycling and flexible packaging innovations - certification and traceability to ensure proper circularity - upgrading and purification to increase the quality of flexible packaging recyclates - collection and sorting to increase recycling rates This is the occasion to share information about Belgian ongoing projects and exchange best practices with other countries and stakeholders in order to enhance plastic packaging circularity in Europe! ♻️

India generates 4.1M tons of e-waste annually, with more than 95% processed in unsafe, informal ways. Pranshu Singhal, an Aspen Global Leadership Network Fellow, founded Karo Sambhav to revolutionize e-waste recycling with a responsible, circular approach. Through partnerships with retailers, schools, and repair shops, Karo Sambhav is building a trusted recycling ecosystem that’s safe, scalable, and sustainable. For his efforts in paving the way for a net-zero future, Pranshu was named a recipient of the 2024-2025 Global Inclusive Spark Grant, a collaboration between the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth and The Aspen Institute. On November 7th, I had the privilege of joining an insightful 🗣️ panel discussion at #MovinOn under the theme, "Make it last, repair, reuse, #recycle". In a conversation with leaders from across sectors, we explored the progress we’ve made in promoting #circularity within industries and the challenges we continue to face. To me, this panel was a great way to promote Movin'On Connect’s new ambition of being the pinch of the private and public hourglass⏳, a useful link for an increasingly important collaboration moving forward. At Michelin we also firmly believe that voluntary initiatives like the 📃 Sustainable Consumption Pledge are essential in driving collective action beyond legislation. The work we do together with industry players, regulators, and consumers will pave the way for an economy that values reuse, repair, and recycling as standard practices. 💡 One of the key takeaways from the discussion was the importance of supportive policies that level the playing field for businesses pursuing sustainability goals. As we strive for a more 🔁 #CircularEconomy, we need clearer regulations around the recycling of materials, like sourcing carbon black from end-of-life tires. Harmonizing these rules across Europe is crucial to creating a sustainable value chain. Europe’s move towards establishing "end-of-waste" criteria at an EU level is a step in the right direction, but more must be done to ensure that sustainability commitments are fairly assessed, both within Europe and globally. At Michelin, we’ve been working towards producing tires from 100% renewable and recycled materials ♻️ for over a decade, with a goal to achieve this by 2050. While we’re proud of the progress made—currently 28% of our tire materials are recycled or renewable—we know that this is just the beginning. Our commitment is clear, and by 2030, we aim to reach 40%. This will require us to rethink every aspect of tire design, production, and sourcing, a challenge that comes with significant investment. As we continue on this journey, we’re reminded that the path to circularity is a collective one—requiring both ambition and 🤝 collaboration. A big thank you to my fellow panelists, Jean-Philippe Dogneton, Isabelle Perignon, and Laurianne Krid , for the enriching discussion and shared insights. Looking forward to continuing this important work with all of you!

The circular economy relies on resuse, recycling and innovative business models extending product life cycles, thereby helping to conserve resources, protect the environment, and mitigate climate change. At the same time, it supports companies increasing their sustainability, efficiency and competitiveness. The topic of circular economy will take centerstage at the Circular Valley Convention taking place from 12-13 March 2025 at Areal Bohler in Dusseldorf. From the organiser of trade fairs such as K, interpack and drupa, the Circular Valley Convention is a new trade fair format organised by Messe Dusseldorf in cooperation with the non-profit Circular Valley Foundation and with scientific support from the renowned Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental Safety, and Energy Technology called UMSICHT. The Convention will look at the circular economy from a holistic perspective across industries and materials; all phases of the circular economy from smart circular design to the reuse and further utilisation of products. 🌍 A Step Towards Sustainability: Learning from the CEO of Infinity Recycling ♻️ Today, I had the incredible opportunity to attend a session at my school featuring the CEO of Infinity Recycling, a leading company revolutionizing the way we recycle plastics. Hearing firsthand about the challenges and innovative solutions in the plastic recycling industry was both inspiring and eye-opening. Key takeaways from the session: ✅ The importance of creating circular economies to combat plastic waste. ✅ How technological advancements are enabling the recycling of plastics that were once considered “unrecyclable.” ✅ The role of young individuals like us in promoting sustainability and driving environmental change. This session not only broadened my understanding of sustainable practices but also reinforced the urgency of finding creative and impactful solutions to global challenges like plastic waste. A huge thank you to the CEO and Infinity Recycling for taking the time to share such valuable insights. I’m excited to apply what I’ve learned and explore ways to contribute to a more sustainable future! 🌱

Every bottle counts in our sustainability journey! At our Darmstadt, Germany distribution center, we've switched from expanded polystyrene (EPS) inserts to recycled pulp for some of our glass bottle shipments. Not only is the new packaging fully recyclable, but this change avoids 251,500 EPS bottle inserts annually. Check out the transformation below! 📦

🔄 Claudia Bierth, MBA from Ball Corporation highlights the importance of the Circular Economy Act in boosting demand for recycled materials and harmonising waste management across the EU, especially for critical raw materials. 🌍 She emphasises the need for standardised recycling rates, mandatory deposit return schemes and closing product loops to prevent downcycling. 🥤 Additionally, she suggests that beverage packaging producers, like Ball Corporation, should have priority access to recycled materials based on their market contributions, which would also incentivise other sectors to improve their collection and sorting infrastructure and systems. Let's drive sustainable change! ♻️ ➡️ Read more in the report: https://bit.ly/3ZhCjbF

5mo. Sooooo many of us NEVER EVEN THINK about textile waste, Matthew. But it's a HUGE issue. So many cheap clothes are being produced and sold now, that the second a product goes bad, is mis-washed, or rips/tears, it just gets tossed only to end up in our landfills. I dig this. Hope your week is going well. .
