Knowles Teacher Initiative awards leadership grants to Teaching Fellows who are engaged in activities that will positively impact STEM education beyond their own classrooms. Kevin and his colleagues attended the NSTA conference in March and will spend the next few months exploring the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices. Together they will develop shared resources to better engage their students in "doing" science and engineering in each of their courses. What does it look like to support teachers in doing this complex work? Provide teachers funding to attend professional conferences and substitute coverage so they have the time to do this important work. Small financial investments can spark monumental change. #KnowlesLovesTeachers #TeacherAppreciation #TeacherLeadership

9th International Action learning Conference - 7-9th April 2025 is to be held in Manchester. The theme for the 2025 International Action Learning Conference is Creating the conditions for developing people and organisations with a focus on two areas in particular: Collective capability – action learning has a tradition of people interacting and working together to achieve ‘something’. Papers are welcomed on action learning and how it supports that focus of collective capability/agency/leadership. Action learning as an agent in leadership development – action learning is used throughout many industries as an agent for development of leaders. Please share papers on how action learning supports or is the key component of leadership development within programmes or as one-off activities. Proposals for papers, workshops or other suggested contributions are invited for submission: Refereed papers – abstracts of 300 words Accounts of practice or workshops – outline of 150 words Please email submission to: ALC2025@manchester.ac.uk by 25 October 2024. 🌟 Shaping the Future of Education 🌟 John Dewey profoundly stated, "If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." This insightful remark urges us to reconsider how we approach teaching in an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving world. In today’s educational landscape, traditional methods alone may no longer equip students with the necessary skills to navigate the future. We must adapt to foster critical thinking, innovation, and problem-solving abilities. By incorporating experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and leveraging emerging technologies, we enable students to not only retain knowledge but also apply it in real-world contexts. This approach cultivates adaptability, resilience, and global competence, all essential for success in the 21st century. As educators, we must embrace continuous innovation in pedagogy to empower the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and change-makers. #Education #Leadership #Innovation #Pedagogy #FutureSkills #TeachingExcellence #LifelongLearning

A Vision for the University of the Common Good What if education wasn’t confined to classrooms or reserved for the privileged few? What if it became a force that flows through every aspect of our lives—a parent guiding a child, colleagues exchanging ideas, or leaders listening to those they serve? In this vision, learning uplifts the common good, wisdom is shared freely, and every citizen contributes to building a just and harmonious society. This is the idea behind the University of the Common Good—not a single institution but a movement to cultivate wisdom, service, and unity in a world often divided by self-interest. Now is the time to ask: How can our learning systems foster wise governance, strengthen democracy, and prepare us to lead with understanding and cooperation? In my latest post, I explore this transformative vision. I invite you to read, reflect, and join the conversation. Together, let’s reimagine education as the foundation for a better world. 👉 Read the full article. Let’s build this future, one shared purpose at a time. #EducationForTheCommonGood #Leadership #WisdomInAction #OneHumanity

"When you are a new person in an unfamiliar place, fitting in presents an undeniable allure. However, assimilation should not be the end goal. Instead of trying to change who you are to be like everyone else at your new college, ask yourself periodically: “How can I transform this place as an instructor, as a scholar, or as a whole person?” Being attentive to those early insights will help you shape your teaching and service, and perhaps even your eventual contributions as a campus leader." https://lnkd.in/ghWfWdKf #NewFaculty #AcademicLife #CampusCommunity #CollegeExperience #HigherEd #TeachingExcellence #FacultyDevelopment #LeadershipJourney #AuthenticityMatters #PersonalGrowth #CampusLeadership #FirstYearFaculty #InclusiveTeaching #TransformativeEducation #SmallCollegeLife

🚨 Instructional Leadership is Failing Without This Critical Shift 🚨 🔥 FACT: Schools are more diverse than ever, yet instructional leadership models remain outdated, top-down, and disconnected from the communities they serve. A groundbreaking 2024 study by Mansfield & Lambrinou exposes a major gap in how schools approach leadership: Culturally Responsive Leadership (CRL) isn’t just an idea—it’s a necessity. 🚀 What’s the Big Shift? Instructional leaders must move beyond compliance and standardized metrics to lead through equity, student voice, and shared power. This isn’t just good practice—it’s the future of education. 💡 3 Game-Changing Takeaways for Education Leaders: 🔹 Stop Leading For Teachers—Lead With Them → Teacher evaluations must include culturally responsive teaching strategies, not just test scores. Instructional leaders need to coach, not just critique. 🔹 Students Aren’t Passive Learners—They’re Stakeholders → Schools that amplify student voice in decision-making see higher engagement, better outcomes, and stronger school culture. Are we really listening to students? 🔹 Equity is More Than a Buzzword—It Requires Action → This district tackled racial disparities in discipline, gifted programs, and curriculum access head-on. What’s stopping others from doing the same? ⚡ The Hard Truth: If instructional leaders aren’t embedding culturally responsive strategies, they aren’t leading. Schools can’t afford outdated, compliance-driven leadership. 🗣 YOUR TURN: What’s one way your school/district is (or isn’t) making leadership more culturally responsive? Let’s start a real conversation in the comments. 👇 #EducationLeadership #CulturallyResponsiveLeadership #InstructionalLeadership #EquityInEducation #EdReform #StudentVoice #FutureOfEducation #SchoolLeadership
