The dominant materials and finishes I used in the interior design of "Villa Meridian" are: - White-washed concrete - Rustic pine-grained wood - Beige natural Mediterranean stone - Brown rattan and white fabric Using naturally sourced materials for interior design is a sophisticated choice. These materials represent the earth, which is intrinsically connected to the Universe and Cosmic Energy, and therefore carry a high frequency. Incorporating high-frequency materials into our homes ensures that the interior space is constantly infused with positive, healing energies that benefit the well-being of its occupants. This principle highlights why living in environments dominated by "concrete" is often detrimental to both mental and physical health. Concrete is a highly processed material, and the more a material is processed, the more it loses its natural high-frequency energy. Similarly, over-applying lacquers on wood can strip away its natural properties, reducing its energetic benefits. A good practical advice is while building structures from concrete, it's essential to balance its energy by incorporating more natural materials and finishes into the exterior facade and interior design. This balance helps create a healing, harmonious living environment. Guy Ailion, partner at KSR Architects & Interior Designers outlines the inspiration and design considerations of two homes taking shape at Pearns Point… “We are currently working on two super villas; one is at an early concept stage that forms part of a cluster of buildings creating a private estate for one family. The estate comprises of multiple Villas, including a remote yoga studio, hidden beach cabanas, staff accommodation, and guest suites. It’s a romantic setting, nestled into the landscape with traditional island villa architecture. The principal home at the top of the site has long views of the sunset and leisure facilities that roll all the way down the hill to touch the beach front. “Our second property is nearing completion and it is an extremely unique layout, that takes 15,000 square foot and keeps it all on one level with no steps. Every one of the 5+ bedrooms and 4 guest bedrooms faces the beach with a unique view. Architecturally, the main villa is incredible – with openings created, and galleries to let the landscape and views into the house. With age comes wisdom… Many MANY years. That’s one benefit of age, you have more years of experience behind you. After completing my degree in interior architecture and design way back in 2001, I’ve been doing this job/career ever since! That’s a lot of experience under my belt (and no it doesn’t feel like it’s been 23 years! 🤯). I’m not stupid enough to think that I know it all. There’s always more to learn. And I’m honest enough to admit when I don’t. Any thoughts? 🤔💭 For anyone who doesn’t know … Gentrification in interior design and architecture is the process of renovating or improving buildings and spaces in a way that attracts more affluent residents or businesses to an area. This can lead to changes in the socio-economic makeup of the neighborhood, often resulting in rising property values and the displacement of lower-income residents or businesses. In interior design, gentrification can manifest as the renovation of older properties into upscale living spaces, trendy restaurants, or boutique shops, catering to a wealthier clientele. Architects play a crucial role in gentrification by designing buildings that align with the new aesthetic and functional needs of the changing community. It's essential for us designers and architects to be mindful of the social implications of gentrification, such as potential displacement of long-time residents or cultural erasure. Balancing the need for urban revitalization with preserving the existing community's character is a key consideration in addressing the impacts of gentrification in interior design and architecture. Any thoughts on how to go about this type of situation?

The Structure, The Fixtures, and The Soul: In every project, I break down the design and build process into three core components: the structure (the "bone"), the fixtures (the "muscle"), and the interior design (the "soul"). The structure is the foundation-it it's not done right from the start, the entire project is at risk. This is why we work closely with our in-house construction team, Bebel Construction, to ensure the structural integrity of every build. The fixtures, such as bespoke joinery, kitchens, and bathrooms, are the elements that add functionality and aesthetic appeal to the space. While these can be updated over time, it's crucial to get them right initially to ensure they meet the client's needs for at least the next 15 to 20 years. Finally, the interior design-the soul of the project— brings everything together. This includes the colours, furnishings, and finishes that make a house feel like a home. These are often the most flexible elements, allowing for updates and changes as trends evolve or as the client's tastes change.
