𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀.... It's nothing extraordinary, really. The best project managers, and in fact, the best organizations, ensure that the maintenance team participates in all phases of a project for its successful execution. 𝘽𝙪𝙩... 𝙬𝙝𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙙𝙚 𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙥 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩? Doing so has many advantages. Here they are summarized according to the stage of each project: 1️⃣ 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 During this stage, the maintenance team will share their knowledge in equipment selection and maintenability. What manufacturers to use, where to install shut-off valves, what facilities are needed for interventions (such as platforms). This is the time to include these things in the project. All this must be taken into account in the project's budget and schedule to assess its feasibility. 2️⃣ 𝗜𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 As new equipment is purchased, it is the maintenance group's responsibility to develop their maintenance strategies. How often will the new equipment be serviced, how will it be done, who will do it. What spare parts need to be purchased for the project’s start up. Additionally, procedures must be developed, and specific tools required for the service of the new equipment must be purchased. 3️⃣ 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 The continuous presence of the maintenance team ensures that regular inspections and adjustments are made, guaranteeing the quality of the project. It will not replace the internal processes of the project itself but will be an additional layer of consultation for welding processes, electrical connections, or new programming, especially when connecting to existing installations. Often, maintenance technical personnel are assigned to fully support the execution. 4️⃣ 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 At the end of the project, the maintenance team must ensure that all systems work correctly and are ready for continuous operation. They will ensure that all equipment meets the company's safety and quality standards. It is very important that the entire maintenance team is trained on the new equipment and procedures to be received. 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘀𝗼? 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Invite your maintenance engineer to the next project meeting. Present your project to them and ask for their opinion. Answer all their questions and include their recommendations in the project. It is better to do all this before handing over the project to the plant.

Thought for the Week: Engineering Safety Management is a constant exercise and not one that can be put to one side or picked up ‘as and when’. A failure to demonstrate a controlled approach to the management of engineering safety could (and maybe should) lead to your project not receiving the endorsement you require at the point of commissioning. This comes with significant time delays and increase in costs. There are several ways to demonstrating your project is in control when it comes to engineering safety activities: 🔹 Development of a detailed engineering safety management plan (and making regular referrals and updates to it); 🔹 Conducting regular project safety reviews; 🔹 Holding formal Hazard Record Review Panels; 🔹 Ensuring that safety topics are discussed in Interdisciplinary Design Checks and Reviews; 🔹 Developing a high-level visual programme of key submission dates and communicating this to relevant parties; 🔹 Early engagement with assessment bodies; 🔹 Provision of updates to assessment bodies and review panels with respect to progress; 🔹 Understanding if additional on-site commissioning tests are required and adequately captured in testing and commissioning plans; 🔹 Using resource competent in engineering safety management; Hazard record (log) management is key - by managing your hazard record consistently, compliance evidence can be entered throughout each stage of the project. The above will demonstrate to assessment bodies and review panels that system hazards and their causes have been considered early and that safety has influenced the design process; either leading to hazard causes being eliminated as the design has progressed or mitigated through various safety measures being implemented. At HSRS, we have experience in ensuring that complex infrastructure systems have been safety integrated and have complied with both the CSM RA and Railways Interoperability regulations. ✍ To find out more, visit https://lnkd.in/gazd5drP
