We proudly presents the first images of the 70-meter Arctic Research Vessel (KEH ARV-70), meticulously designed for the Danish National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua). Over the past year, the Dansk Dana Konsortium (DDK)—a partnership between #KNUDEHANSEN (KEH) and OMT - Odense Maritime Technology (OMT)—has transformed the initial 68-meter concept into an extensive 70-m tender design. This evolution encompasses comprehensive engineering, propeller design, model testing (ice, maneuvering, seakeeping, cavitation, and self-propulsion tests), underwater noise analysis, and innovative measures to minimize bubble sweep down, culminating in a state-of-the-art Polar-class research vessel. DTU Aqua has now released a public tender for the detailed design and construction and delivery of the vessel, named ‘DANA V’. Courtesy of Visit Greenland, and background photo by Jason C. Hill. TWEED NUMERICAL COASTAL MODELLING TDES1242371 The Queensland Department of Environment, Science, and Innovation’s QGHL division is seeking a calibrated and validated 2DH sediment transport model for the TSB project area using Deltares Delft 3D. This model should initially focus on sediment movement updrift of the Tweed Sand Bypassing Jetty along Letitia Spit and be scalable for future northern expansion. The model must offer various temporal resolutions, from specific events to annual timescales. Additionally, it should be designed to potentially include further morphological and hydrodynamic elements. The supplier is also expected to ensure deployment of the model is possible on the Government IT network. The project scope requires delivering a comprehensive user-manual, staff training and IT/technical support (up to 10 hours each) for the ongoing application, validation, and recalibration of the model. We have had a long association with the Tweed Sand Bypassing project contributing to the EIS in the mid 1990s from an environmental perspective. #madrigal #tenders #environment

"The research vessel RV Flip is the only vessel in the world capable of shifting from horizontal to vertical position in the middle of the ocean. Flip is not a small ship, it is about 108 meters long and weighs 700 tons Engineers designed it to be able to move to a vertical position with 90 degrees straight, so that the front of the ship at the top is 17 meters high (i.e. a 5-storey building high) while at the bottom is submerged 91 meters long, i.e. that most of the ship is submerged underwater. Which helps the ship's stability and resistance to waves, the transformation process takes about 30 minutes, in which the seawater is pumped into huge tanks in the back of the ship, which makes it sink into the water to become the ship in a vertical position, and this ship is considered one of the most important ships in the field of scientific research of seas and oceans.." See you next week at the 38th International Conference on Coastal Engineering ICCE 2024 in Rome! Next week Jaime Ascencio Daan Houtzager will be in Rome to share more about the physical model experiments that we have performed. In the video, you can see an EMS sensor measuring flow velocity in two directions. We use this to better understand the tranquility in front of and behind the structure. During this specific experiment, we simulated marine growth on the Reef Enhancing Breakwater to assess its impact on wave interaction. Curious to learn more? 📥 Access the design guidelines for the Reef Enhancing Breakwater here: https://lnkd.in/eKH6RQAh Over the past few years, Reefy has conducted research at the high-end facilities at Deltares and TU Delft. We are excited to share that we will be publishing the results in a paper Many thanks to the authors for their invaluable contribution! Trabajo Fin de Grado de Arquitectura Naval de la ETSI Navales de la UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), realizado en el Canal de Ensayos de la ETSI Navales, CEHINAV. Autor: Germán Navarro Bibiloni. Tutor: Antonio Souto-Iglesias. Experimental investigation of a spring-connected simplified floating solar photovoltaic farm under offshore wave conditions TFG-GAN-385 Abstract: The present work focuses on the experimental study of a multi-body floating photovoltaic (FPV) system called RECsolar, designed to operate in adverse marine conditions. This solar farm is assembled by floaters anchored to the seabed, capable of supporting four solar panels with a total surface area of 13m2. RECsolar stands out from traditional proposals due to its flexible connections between floaters, allowing exceptional adaptation to extreme weather conditions. The project analyzes the dynamics of this floating structure using models connected by springs that replicate the soft connections between the bodies. The tests were conducted in the towing tank of UPM-ETSIN, using two different scale models and simulating the conditions of the North Sea. Previous research on this structure served as the basis for defining wave conditions and other critical parameters. In total, eight regular waves, based on the metocean data from the Utsira Nord (UN) site, were tested and analyzed for both models. During the tests, the displacements and rotations of the structure were measured to evaluate its seakeeping and determine the stresses in the interconnections. These measurements exhibited noise and interference between the markers during the tests. After a rigorous process of cleaning the signals, the information was analyzed to meet the objective of analyzing the dynamics of the structure and estimating the stresses in the interconnection lines. The results provide an estimation of parameters that had not been previously evaluated. These results serve as validation for numerical programs in development, which at some point could be com- pared with those obtained experimentally. Even without this tool available, the system responses presented in this thesis are very promising. The study demonstrates the viability of the RECsolar structure, highlighting its ability to withstand large deformations and stresses without compromising its integrity. Furthermore, its modular and lightweight design facilitates its installation and maintenance, proposing a sustainable and efficient solution for solar energy generation at sea. #etsinavales #somosupm #cehinav #floatingsolar #photovoltaicfarm #offshorewaves
