The built environment sector is raising concerns about the government's proposed Future Homes Standard, arguing that it doesn't go far enough in achieving net-zero targets. Here's a breakdown of the issue: 1️⃣ The Low Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI), representing 1,000 industry professionals, warns the standard could allow the construction of homes with lower environmental performance than current regulations. 2️⃣ The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is considering allowing exemptions from certain regulations in specific situations, raising concerns from LETI. 3️⃣ LETI, along with other organizations, believes the proposed standards lack ambition in several areas including no clear encouragement for onsite renewable energy generation. 👉 The main argument is that higher standards are not seen as a constraint on housing supply, but rather an investment in a sustainable future for both residents and the environment.
