According with the Romanian Methodological norms for the uniform application of the civil status provisions, from 21.03.2024, the declaration of marriage is made personally, by the future spouses, a man and a woman, in writing, at S.P.C.L.E.P. or, as the case may be, at the town hall of the place of residence of one of them and is published on the day it was received, by display, in the excerpt, at the headquarters of the town hall, on its website and on the portal S.I.I.E.A.S.C., and, where appropriate, at the headquarters of the town hall where the other spouse is domiciled or residing. By exception, the marriage may be concluded in an administrative-territorial unit other than the one in whose territorial area the future spouses reside or have their residence, on the basis of the supporting documents, only with the approval of the mayor of the administrative-territorial unit where the marriage is concluded and with the obligation to notify the town hall of residence or residence of the future spouses, in order to publish the marriage declaration. #RomanianNorms #CivilStatus #MarriageDeclaration #UniformApplication #MethodologicalNorms #TownHall #FutureSpouses #LegalProvisions #MarriagePublication #AdministrativeTerritorialUnit

Today's genealogical tip! Agreement Just because seemingly different sources agree does not mean that they have to be correct–it just means that they agree. Consider whether or not the sources are truly independent. Sometimes different “sources” have the same actual person directly or indirectly providing the information. A grandmother’s 1935 marriage record, 1994 death certificate, and 1994 obituary all provide the same place of birth for her. Grandma was essentially the informant on all three because her children provided what they were told for the death certificate and the obituary. And all three gave places different from Grandma was actually born. Just because Grandma was consistent does not necessarily mean that she was correct. #research

Since 1970, the U.S. marriage rate has fallen over 60%, with a birth rate of just 1.6%. As more adults remain single and same-sex marriages rise, traditional family structures are at risk. Renewing these values could restore economic stability. Join Pacific Justice Institute in prayer for family unity at PJI.org.

In the earliest days of the broad issuance of marriage licenses, old marriage licenses represented a sort of business transaction. As marriages were private affairs commenced between members of two families, the licenses were seen as contractual. In a patristic world, the bride may not have even known that the “contract” was guiding the exchange of goods, services, and cash holdings between two families. Indeed, the end of the marriage union was not only to ensure the prospect of procreation, but also forged social, financial, and political alliances. Further, in the state-run organization widely known as the Church of England, priests, bishops, and other clergy had a substantial say in authorizing a marriage. Eventually, the church’s influence was tempered by the creation of secular laws regarding marriage licensing. While creating a substantial revenue stream for the state, the licenses also helped municipalities craft accurate census data. Today, marriage records are among the vital statistics held by developed nations. https://lnkd.in/e9jnEVS8

70 years ago today - May 21, 1954 [David O. McKay diary, May 21, 1954] At a meeting of the Salt Lake Temple Presidency with President [David O.] McKay[,] the following matters were discussed: Adoptions: Seal children of divorced couple (children not born under covenant) to the parent having legal custody & to companion of that parent without formality of legal adoption to the parent's companion. It was suggested by President [El Ray] Christiansen that [the] adoption ceremony seems incomplete and unsatisfactory. Matter taken under advisement by President McKay. Marriage: If marriage is to be deferred more than a week after couple goes to temple, the groom should not take the bride through the veil until they come for marriage. Going from Room to Room: Approval given by President McKay for men and women in passing from room to room to go together in double file.
