What makes modern engineering projects/teams so different to more traditional projects? We're living in a whole new era for how we do engineering. The three era's for engineering: 1. Analogue Era [Apollo Missions / Saturn V] 2. Digital Era [Space Shuttle] 3. Systems Era [Falcon 9] Systems era is about cross-functional complexity. It's about how a small change in one components effects 7 sub-systems, which effect 20 others. The best teams in the world think systems first and functional domain second. What can we do to better operate in systems era? Start integrated and then quickly ship updates. The hardship in the systems era comes from emergent effects that we cant consider/model easily.
