Great report by Fozia Irfan OBE calling on a new form of philanthropy: Transformative Philanthropy. "Transformative philanthropy is not merely a concept but it is a call to act differently. It places at its heart, principles of social justice but also includes a number of other dimensions necessary for social change. It is a concerted effort to recognise the failings of traditional philanthropy and build a new paradigm which reimagines the place we inhabit, the role we play and the values we embody. In this report, Fozia explains how philanthropy can and should transcend mere charity or goodwill and become a catalyst for social transformation, and provides guidance on how we can get there. The Next Wave Champions are a global community of private funders committed to supporting mental health advocacy, awareness and services. We aim to accelerate system change towards a mentally healthy world by encouraging and helping new funders to integrate mental health into their work. Our support aims to be super practical - snappy briefs that help you navigate what's going on; 121 masterclasses from your peers on tricky stuff that can trip us all up; and recommendations on organisations we've funded who we think are doing fantastic work and advisors whose help we've found to be invaluable. The report, co-created by the Next Wave Champions, aims to inspire and accelerate our collective understanding of how supporting global mental health can accelerate progress across the Sustainable Development Goals. We had so much fun attending the Brain Capital UK Summit in London today! Thank you to Kooth Digital Health (United Kingdom) for organising such an amazing line up, to Sir Norman Lamb for being a wonderful chair and to our good friend Harris Eyre MD PhD for your continued enthusiasm and inspiration. We had the chance to hear from some fantastic speakers (not least our very own CEO Jules Chappell OBE who spoke on a panel about Impact Investing for Brain Capital) about blended capital, AI, prevention, youth mental health, and more! Another stand out for us was hearing from Mithu Storoni, author of Hyperefficient, on our collective need to reframe what ‘efficiency’ looks like and how the way we measure it must change in this increasingly AI-powered world.
