Real time. Crafting this post in a cafe in #ShoeburyCommon on Sunday mid-morning as part of my #FathersDay celebration. Know it’s not ging out until Tuesday but wanted to get it out of my head. Had not meant to be here. Not been before. Sometimes a bit of exploration can unearth some hidden gems. As we were heading for our tried and trusted seafront walk the clouds started to cry. More like sob. So we just kept driving. When the rain stopped. So did we. With five kids. Being treated is expensive. Fresh air and an ice cream becomes value for money. We arrived in beach hut territory. The hut insides are like a tardis. The locals were only too happy to show how innovative they can be in utilising a small space. We sat and watched the wind surfers as they literally took off with every gust. And metal detection is clearly not a dying art in these parts. The kids mesmerised about what treasure would be found. How do I legitimise this story on a professional leaders social media channel. A need to be flexible and open to pivot strategy depending on in your face variables. Wise people have told me never to write a three year strategy. Three months max. My three hour one this morning has become redundant. Be alert to learning at all times. Insights and gold nuggets can be solicited from beach hut life as much as Boardrooms. And always make time for the really important things in life. For me that is family. Should not need a commercial day to be that reminder. Left a card and present outside the front door of my dad’s house this morning. It wasn’t the wind that swept through the cruise ship he was on earlier this week. But an isolation bug. According to a WhatsApp from my mum it is the first time he has smiled since Monday. This is also a nod to all those who for various reasons don’t have a dad and for whom days like this can be even harder. Thinking of you.
