No way mate, ATT was ages ago and those f2p games got huge back then only because they were such great games and F2P is such a great biz model. Couldn't have been ATT driving that success, it was just better devs making better games on a better biz model.
What, is nobody making great mobile games apart from Monopoly Go for the past 4 years? But that can't be, everyone in mobile can't shut up about how much they love F2P and how great new all the mobile games are so...
The only conclusion is this data must be wrong bc there's nothing wrong with this market, everyone loves it. You're right let's rely on "odds in your favor" to release games aka luck. You know, like those silly premium game makers monetization guys cosplaying as game devs mocked for the past 12 years for "making games for themselves not the market". All while cloning the daylights out of them ofc.

Releasing new mobile games post-ATT is hard. May the odds be ever in your favor 🤞
😮 30 mature 'SuperGames' represented 33% of IAP revenue in 2015, grew to >50% market share by 2019 (Tier1 West).
😬 Only 10 games launched post-ATT have made Top-100* grossing in any particular year
🧐 Of the 10 that did, Monopoly GO carried ~45% of their revenue.

There are many interesting Israeli games in the top charts of the data.ai annual report:
Coin Master (Moon Active) (5th Grossing)
Phone Case DIY (Crazylabs/Embracer) (6th Downloads)
Bridge Race (Supersonic/Ironsource/Unity) (4th Downloads)
Ilyon (1st match games)
Mech Arena (Plarium) (3rd Shooting games)
Dice Dreams and Domino Dreams (Superplay) (Top 5 Casino and Party games)
* Alien Invasion (Crazylabs/MultiCast) and Bridge Race (Supersonic) are both listed in the Top Genre Per Market Concentration by Consumer Spend (under Hyper Casual), but I'm not sure whether it's a good or bad thing.
(Full disclosure: I am an employee of CrazyLabs)
data.ai has recently released its State of Mobile report for 2023, which contains some interesting data.
One particular highlight is the success of the Israeli games industry:
Ilyon has come first for match games, according to Data.ai's Mobile Performance Score, while Plarium's Mech Arena has claimed the third spot for shooting games. 📈
Additionally, SuperPlay's Dice Dreams and Domino Dreams have made it into the top five for Casino and Party games. 👏
Let's hope the Israeli games industry continues thriving in 2024 and beyond 🤟 😎 🤟
If you feel like making new mobile games is harder than ever, turns out the data says you’re right. Post ATT Privacy changes essentially locked in leading game’s users. The barrier to tradional marketing growth is so high that only those able to spends whatever Scopely spends per month on UA have a chance to grow a new product, and that is part of an overall userbase that has flattened. Yes there are exceptions, low cost teams make this work with ad driven content, but the economics of making a successful F2P game are completely different today than 4yrs ago and this needs to be understood more broadly by the dev community. If you are planning to release new mobiles games in the next year or 2, you must have strategies that includes hyper efficient development cycles to generate best in class KPIs, an optimal content strategy targeting niche or growth genres, alternative marketing angles like organic community & viral exposure, & lastly hybrid monetization models to maximize opportunities from each and every user across each platform.
