The great thing about Accura Engineering is that, not only do we have the latest equipment like the beast of a machine that I posted about buying last week, but we also have “heritage” kit too like our 1938 Snow grinder which is currently undergoing a complete overhaul and rebuild. Although it might not be the flashiest, this kit gives us the capability under one roof to deliver projects that other businesses would find impossible, as well as allowing us to retain and develop engineering skills that are rapidly being lost. By training our staff and apprentices on this older kit, we can build the foundational knowledge that will make them world-class engineers, machinists and toolmakers. With a 1.8m table and the ability to grind 1.1m width, our Snow grinder supports our tooling projects, allowing us to manufacture and refurb large press tools quickly and efficiently onsite. The overhaul has involved a full refurbishment of the hydraulic cylinders and the wheel head assembly, as well as re-chroming and re-grinding of the main spindle assembly. The hydraulic pack was fully overhauled too including all seals and valves and an automatic oiling system for the slideways has been fitted. The project has been led by Carl Smith and involved a wide range of staff across site, including apprentices who learn how to operate and maintain this older equipment for many more years to come. #apprentices #apprenticeshipweek

Entering the FUTO workshop, I learned about Winch Apparatus for lifting and explored Lathe machines for machining circular objects. In the past, I thought, "This is Mechanical, I'm Process," a common misconception among Nigerian engineers. Instead, proudly declare, "I'm an Engineer, specializing in Process Engineering. I handle purchasing more efficient proprietary equipment, design, manufacture, and integrate the rest." Every equipment needs a civil foundation; someone must size it, offer guidance, and, if necessary, collect payment. Learn to interpret drawings and install it, at least. Check the legends on the title block, the scale of the drawings, and type from the same Technical Drawing you did in year one/two of Engineering—all engineers did this. Chinese and Italian apprenticeship systems excel without having two heads. Why? A hands-on training for some interns was conducted with the veteran engineer at #Greenaqua's factory site. It is a fraction of #Greenaqua's reinforced quality plan. Given the forward-future, from last year, we planned to recruit some interns whose majors are mechanics or mechatronics, based on loads of hands-on training, to foster stronger, backup teams in #waterfilters and #fillingmachines. The training covers the following: First is the safety knowledge regarding connecting electricity, and steps should be paid. 2nd, for tank welding, some more steps and rules should be obeyed when welding: the #tank diameter is in line with the request, tearing the plastic film when welding, ensuring the welding sequence, how to ignite the welding gun, the protection when welding, keeping hands stable when welding, etc. He will teach all of them by phased schedules, ensuring they master the indispensable skills such as #fillingmachines and #waterfilters.

Well, well, well... look who's hit the big 3-0 in the engineering world! 🥳 That's right, folks - yours truly has been tinkering, problem-solving and occasionally cursing at stubborn machinery for 30 whole years! 🛠️😅 It's been quite the ride, let me tell you. From my first day as a fresh-faced apprentice (with a hard hat that was too big and boots that were too shiny) to now... well, the hat fits, but the boots are still shiny. Some things never change! ✨👷♂️ In these 30 years, I've seen technology come and go, solved problems I didn't even know existed and drunk enough coffee to fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool. ☕🏊♂️ I've worked on projects that made me want to tear my hair out and others that made me feel like I could conquer the world. Sometimes both on the same day! But you know what? I wouldn't change a single second of it. Because engineering isn't just a job - it's a calling. It's about making things work, making them better and occasionally making them go "boom" (in a controlled environment, of course! 💥🧪). So here's to 30 years of calculations, innovations and occasional explosions. Here's to the challenges overcome, the lessons learned and the countless "Eureka!" moments. 💡 And most importantly, here's to all the amazing people I've met along the way - colleagues, clients and fellow engineering enthusiasts.
