Excited to share that Dean Dalili, MD, MHCM joined DeepScribe as our Chief Medical Officer! In my conversations with Dean, one of the important lessons that I learned was that the reason healthcare fails boils down into two buckets: 1. Ignorance: Limited knowledge of laws and conditions that apply to solve any given problem 2. Ineptitude: Knowledge to solve the given problem that exists but is failed to be applied correctly The regrettable errors in our healthcare system largely stem from the 2nd bucket - where the cure exists but is not applied because the knowledge fails to make it to the care being provided to the patient. BUT, this is not the clinicians fault. In a study published in the ACCA, medical knowledge DOUBLES every 73 days. At this pace, there is no way for front line clinicians to keep up with all of this information. Studies have also shown that if a primary care clinician were to practice with the latest guidelines, they would have to practice medicine for nearly 27 hours a day! HOWEVER, what is promising is technology’s ability to solve this problem in meaningful ways. I've had the honor to meet inspiring leaders in our space like Denise Basow, that have built tools like UpToDate for clinicians to use every day to keep up with the pace of medical knowledge. In this new wave of #AmbientAI, Dean and I both connected on the shared belief that these tools can be used to not just to aid clinician burnout, but to also bring the RIGHT medical knowledge to the clinician at the RIGHT time - making the right thing to do the EASY thing to do.
