The Americans with Disabilities Act, also known as ADA, was signed into Federal law on July 26th, 1990. These regulations dictate the minimum accessibility accommodations that must be provided in public, commercial, state, and local government buildings. ADA ensures that members of our communities with disabilities are given safe and equitable access to the businesses and services that we all use and work in every day.
These photos represent just a handful of the projects where VA&P has been asked to provide consultation or designs for accessibility improvements to existing buildings: business offices, museums, churches, schools, salons, fire stations, restaurants, medical offices, playgrounds, and even private homes.
Think for a moment, for those who require use of a wheelchair, or are vision impaired, or have limited use of their hands, what might be their biggest obstacles in trying to navigate these spaces? Can you ID the primary access issues?
