Smart use of natural resource

Melbourne's MPavilion has played host to numerous 'starchitects' over the past decade, and this year is no exception, with Japan's Tadao Ando recently completing the 10th MPavilion. Bringing his distinctive style to Queen Victoria Gardens, this Summer's MPavilion showcases beautifully constructed concrete, pure geometries, and water. These elements are commonly found throughout Ando's work globally, including the Chichu Art Museum, the Church on the Water, and Museum SAN, to name a few. Ando possesses a unique ability to maintain a consistent style and objective in his designs — emphasizing the natural environment — regardless of the context and typology. With the MPavilion being one of his smaller-scale projects, it's interesting to experience how these ideas are scaled down and still communicated successfully. The raw materiality and reflective water enhance and spotlight the natural surroundings of the gardens, with strategically limited yet highly considered viewpoints outward towards the foliage and sky. Paired with the simple form, visitors experience a sense of emptiness and silence, highlighting the interplay of light and wind and creating a holistic and peaceful ambiance. This year's MPavilion presents a stark contrast to the previous one — a bright orange and highly textured canopy designed by All(zone). Both pavilions share a focus on filtering light into the space, but each takes a distinct approach to achieve this goal. Which one do you prefer? MUSEUM OF EMOTIONS- Edition #4 Competition entry Title- The journey Description- The two spaces of the museum have the same maze layout but a contrasting impact on the emotions of the user. In the lower space the user can clearly see the goal through the transparent glass but still feel stuck, confused and frustrated. Whereas in the upper space, the user is not clear about the goal but still has a sensory experience walking amid the textures, colours, fragrance and the life around. Throughout the territory there are traces of architectural forms comparable to other examples of Mediterranean cultures and similar to those of Northern Europe, prior to those documented by Roman sources. But the real development came with the arrival of this culture, which left behind some of its most impressive monuments in Hispania. The subsequent Muslim invasion that began in 711 AD caused a radical change in the following eight centuries and led to great advances in culture, including architecture. All this exchange and cultural coexistence has resulted in a series of artistic and architectural expressions that have put Spain on the design map. In it, jewels of classical architecture coexist, such as La Alhambra de Granada; the Aqueduct of Segovia; The Giralda of Seville or the Cathedral of Santiago along with exponents of the most modern styles and of which we want to speak to you in this month’s blog. The twentieth century brought modernism, which Barcelona had as a reference center, so we will start the virtual tour here. The most famous architect in this scene was Antoni Gaudí, who claimed his own style and forms mixing traditional currents with more modern ones. The Sagrada Familia (Barcelona) Its construction began in 1882 with a marked neo-Gothic style. A year later the project was delegated to Gaudí, who rethinked its design completely. Gaudí designed an exceptional and innovative temple that was going to be made up of 18 towers, although finally he only had time to create one of them before his death. The architect died in 1926 leaving the project that occupied the last years of his life unfinished but, thanks to the plans that are preserved, his dream becomes reality bit by bit thanks to the work of other artists and the money obtained from the donations and visits. Although not yet finished, the Sagrada Familia is a striking temple full of religious symbolism. The date of its complete completion is still far away, but it has become a must-see icon for the city. The Church of Colònia Güell (Catalan: Cripta de la Colònia Güell, IPA: [ˈkɾiptə ðə lə kuˈlɔniə ˈɣweʎ]) is an unfinished work by Antoni Gaudí. It was built as a place of worship for the people on a hillside in a manufacturing area in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, near Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain). Colònia Güell was the brainchild of Count Eusebi de Güell; who enlisted the help of architect Antoni Gaudí in 1898. However, work was not started until 1908, 10 years after commission. The plan for the building consisted of constructing two naves, an upper and a lower, two towers, and one forty-meter-high central dome. In 1914, the Güell family halted construction due to the death of Count Güell.[2] At the time, the lower nave was almost complete so between the years of 1915 and 1917, it was completed and readied for use. The Church is one of the seven properties Gaudí built near Barcelona that are Unesco World Heritage Sites. Collectively, these sites are known as the Works of Antoni Gaudí, and show his "exceptional creative contribution to the development of architecture and building technology in the late 19th and early 20th centuries." #design #architecture #space #history
