We are enganged in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Ensuring that a skilled workforce is prepared to tackle future challenges is crucial, which is why promoting education and careers in STEM is a central focus for us. It's vital for us to inspire young people to pursue these subjects in school and later at the university level. We have partnered with Nasjonalt senter for realfagsrekruttering - The National Centre for STEM-recruitment in Norway to work more systematically with recruiting and inspiring young people. The STEM Partner program is a strategic initiative aimed at fostering long-term recruitment in the field. 👨💻 – There are many excellent initiatives designed to attract young people to technology and science, but it is essential to encourage a more diverse range of students to enter these fields. Connecting technology with creativity, innovation, and diversity is key to advancing forward, EVP Sustainability, Communication and Public relations, Maja-Stina Ekstedt, says. #STEMEducation #WomenInSTEM #TechEd

I was very fortunate during my career in science and engineering to work with wonderful female mentors, colleagues, and trainees. Currently, women make up to 30% in the STEM workspace, but unfortunately, according to recent research, they are: ⚆ often given less credit for their work than their male colleagues ⚆ more frequently leave their academic jobs due to a toxic work culture ⚆ are more impacted by parenthood and familial responsibilities in scholarly productivity 𝘚𝘰, 𝘐 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘔 𝘣𝘶𝘵, 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭, 𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯. #stem #womeninscience #womeninstem #engineer #science #drjojo

Time to act. "STEM-proficient workers are in short supply almost everywhere. In Europe, close to half of businesses are struggling to recruit people with the STEM skills they need."

As an undergraduate STEM student, our author can find limited advice for STEM undergraduates as a lot of the advice is aimed at “young career scientists” aka PhD students and above. Which is why she contacted The Female Scientist, to see if anyone could answer her questions about undergraduate experiences as a female in STEM. Note: This is supposed to be a growing guide. Can you help our author answering those questions? #questiontime #empowerement #academia https://lnkd.in/gZzWfn6K

🚨 "Are we steering girls into tech careers?" 🚨 I've heard this concern voiced here in Utah and it's especially disheartening when it comes from women. 👇 The report below highlights the significant talent that female students in Utah have for STEM-related careers, alongside their aptitude for various other fields. In a career exploration environment, shouldn't we be showing students as many options as possible for a successful future? Here's an example of how this kind of information can benefit students: One high school used aptitude data to invite female students with the talent for STEM to attend the Women Tech Council's SheTech event. Every student that was invited, accepted the invitation to explore. They spent the day at the event and this was the result: 💡 1/3 of the students were LIT UP and excited about what they experienced. 💭 1/3 of the students were interested in learning more. 🚫 1/3 of the students decided "not for me." Every one of those outcomes is valuable. Last year, YouScience studied over 500 recently graduated students and found that 57% of women reported not being exposed to a wide enough variety of career options (compared to 29% of male students). 🔦 Shining a light on the talents of females in Utah is not about steering them into tech careers. It is about showing them the multitude of options available for exploration - which is exactly what they need. https://lnkd.in/gBKxJ7kU

Yesterda, February 11; we celebrated the In International Day of Women and Girl in Science, I always have been very vocal and proud to be a #womeninstem as an #engineer. I hope my contribution to science will leave a legacy by increasing the number of girls deciding to study a career in STEM, and to continue moving forward to close the salary gap. This year theme: Women in Science Leadership: A New Era for Sustainability Tackling some of the greatest challenges of the Agenda for Sustainable Development - from improving health to combating climate change - will rely on harnessing all talent. That means getting more women working in these fields. Diversity in research expands the pool of talented researchers, bringing in fresh perspectives, talent and creativity. This Day is a reminder that women and girls play a critical role in science and technology communities and that their participation should be strengthened. Did you know: 💵 Women are typically given smaller research grants than their male colleagues and, while they represent 33.3% of all researchers, only 12% of members of national science academies are women. 🤖 In cutting edge fields such as artificial intelligence, only one in five professionals (22%) is a woman. 🏭 Despite a shortage of skills in most of the technological fields driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution, women still account for only 28% of engineering graduates and 40% of graduates in computer science and informatics. 👩🏻🔬 Female researchers tend to have shorter, less well-paid careers. Their work is underrepresented in high-profile journals and they are often passed over for promotion.
