On a mission to help reach quality education to each child even in the remotest part of my country I Propagating Holistic education I Helping implement HPC in schools
Subjects I wish were taught in schools along with the syllabus: As I reflect on my school days, I can't help but think about the subjects that were missing from the syllabus. Don't get me wrong, I value the education I received, but there are some crucial life lessons and skills that I wish were taught alongside regular subjects. 📚 📝 Financial literacy: Who wouldn't have appreciated some guidance on budgeting and understanding those tricky financial terms? 📝 Health and hygiene: A class that goes beyond the basic "wash your hands" and dives into nutrition, mental well-being, and overall health maintenance. 📝 Mental health: Recognising when things aren't quite right upstairs and knowing what to do about it. 📝 Stress management: Techniques to handle the pressures of growing up and finding your way in the world. 📝 Self-defense: How nice would it have been to learn a few moves to boost confidence and personal safety? 📝 Spiritualism: Exploring different beliefs and practices, because understanding the diverse spirituality could have brought us closer. 📝 Self-reliance: Schools should nurture that sense of independence and resourcefulness early on. 📝 Respect and empathy: A class that goes beyond the golden rule and teaches us how to truly understand and respect each other. 📝 First aid: Imagine being the person who knows what to do in an emergency - a life skill we could all benefit from. 📝 Culture and heritage: I still see so many children not feeling good where they come from and that calls for a change. Learning about where we come from, our roots, and the incredible diversity that makes our world so rich. What else would you add to the list? #Syllabus #Curriculum #Skills #Education

Building relationships is essential in developing a student’s sense of belonging within their place of learning. Being a warm demander starts with fostering those relationships while still challenging them in their education. #racialequitymatters #professionaldevelopment #equityimperative #racialequity #CriticalHope #EducationalTransformation #hopeinaction www.equityimperative.org

#parentaleducation plays a crucial role in shaping a child's educational achievement and their #safety. #protectchildren #educationempowerment #themoreyouknow 1. Promote Early Literacy and Language Skills - Engage in conversations with your child from an early age. - Read books together and encourage a love for reading. - Expose them to a rich vocabulary. 2. Create a Learning-Friendly Environment - Set up a dedicated study area at home. - Encourage curiosity and exploration. - Provide access to educational materials and resources. 3. Be Involved in Their Education - Attend parent-teacher conferences. - Stay informed about their progress and challenges. - Advocate for their needs within the school system. 4. Foster Emotional Intelligence - Teach empathy, self-awareness, and emotional regulation. - Help them understand and manage their feelings. 5. Model a Growth Mindset - Encourage resilience and perseverance. - Teach them that effort leads to improvement. - Avoid praising innate abilities; instead, praise effort and hard work. 6. Support Non-Cognitive Skills - Develop skills like self-discipline, time management, and organization. - Teach problem-solving and decision-making. 7. Promote Healthy Habits - Ensure adequate sleep, nutrition, and physical activity. - A healthy body supports a healthy mind. The more we learn as parents and the more we can help our children be aware and know right from wrong / good from bad. It might just allow them to speak up for those that needs the protection!!

Teaching kids to be independent is a crucial aspect of their development, fostering confidence, self-reliance, and problem-solving skills. Here are some tips to encourage independence in children: 1. Start Early: Introduce small responsibilities from a young age, such as picking up toys or choosing their clothes. This helps them feel capable and trusted. 2. Offer Choices: Giving children choices within set boundaries encourages decision-making skills. Whether it’s selecting their outfit or choosing a snack, this practice promotes autonomy. 3. Teach Life Skills: Involve your children in everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning, and managing money. These activities are not only practical life skills but also opportunities for them to learn and feel accomplished. 4. Encourage Problem-Solving: Resist the urge to solve every problem for your child. Instead, ask open-ended questions like, "What do you think you should do?" This approach encourages critical thinking and self-reliance. Encouraging independence in children is a balanced act of providing enough guidance to keep them safe while allowing them the freedom to learn, explore, and grow on their own. #ParentingTips #Children #PTA

Had a great day at the Association of Independent Schools of NSW Wellbeing conference today with my colleagues. A few takeaways: Donna Cross OAM - Belonging is the best predictor of wellbeing in the school. How do we measure belonging? Annie Gowing PhD - Young people feel connected to their school based on relational, learning and co-curricular opportunities. If a student is struggling, how can we give them an opportunity to connect? Rebecca Collie - Teachers who begin the term with high relatedness improves their vitality over the term. How can we make time for relationships at the start of the term? Rebecca Collie #2 - of paramount importance for building motivation is “autonomy-support” from self-determination theory. Build this through providing meaningful rationale for tasks, acknowledging student perspectives and using invitational language among other things. How can we build our students’ autonomy in our classrooms? #wellbeing #studentwellbeing #learning
