Walking the halls of TUM - Weihenstephan once again, where my journey in brewing began, felt like reconnecting with an old friend. At the 2024 Technology Seminar, organized by the WIB, Nikhil and I were invited to introduce fermapulse to a community eager for progress. The Josefibock tapping event was more than just a networking evening; it was a hive of meaningful exchanges. The breweries' interest in our product was both validating and motivating. Why do we value customer conversations so highly? 💎 Because they are the compass that guides our innovation—ensuring fermapulse is not just a concept but a solution tailored to the needs of the industry. Our pilot is in full swing with a roster of forward-thinking breweries, and while we're at capacity, the revolution doesn't stop here. If you're interested in being part of this digital brewing revolution, get in touch and consider joining our waitlist. Let's explore how fermapulse can serve your brewery's future. #TUMWeihenstephan #fermapulse #TechSeminar #CustomerCentric #CustomerFeedback #DigitalBrewingRevolution

DO TO THE KITCHEN WHAT UBER DID TO THE CAR LinkedIn members familiar with my posts and articles know that I believe the grocery and food industries are ready for severe disruption. In 2013, I wrote articles, LinkedIn posts, and I spoke on podcasts about what I consider to be the Holy Grail of disruption - leverage infrastructure and robotics to reduce the cost of food production and delivery cheaper than the price of going to a grocery store to buy groceries and cook the food at home. In the video I have attached, Travis Kalanick, co-founder of Uber, and one of the most brilliant and influential entrepreneurs in history, outlines his vision for his company, CloudKitchens. According to Travis, this is the opportunity: “Can you get the preparation and delivery of food so high-quality and cost-efficient, that it starts to approach the cost of you going to the grocery store. If that happens, you do to the kitchen what Uber did to the car.” I believe the answer is yes. I agree 100% with Kalanick as I designed nearly the exact same model. However, I desgined the model for Amazon to leverage, and Travis launched CloudKitchens. Amazon is a customer of CloudKitchens, and the relationship is growing. Travis believes that his strength is “digitizing the physical world.” This means manufacturing, logistics and real estate. CloudKitchens has a software division and a robotics division. (A video is played in the podcast that shows the ecosystem CloudKitchens has created via their software and robotics). I believe we are about to witness how powerful CloudKitchens ecosystem is due to their partnership with Starbucks and their new CEO Brian Niccol. Niccol wants to resore the vibe of Starbucks being the “third place.” CloudKitchens can make it a reality. I strongly encourage Niccol to THINK BIG and push the frontier of what’s possible using robotics and automation inside CloudKitchens facilities strategically located in the majority of cities. CloudKitchens facilities can be leveraged for drinks and food preparation. Completed orders can be delivered in minutes to nearby actual Starbucks. Expanding the partnership with CloudKitchens is arguably the most strategic move Niccol can make. Travis and CloudKitchens are creating a new model for how Americans THINK about eating, and they’re also providing the infrastructure and ecosystem to introduce new options for food. The food and grocery industries are a $2T business. Little has changed in the industries over the last 100 years. The potential impact of CloudKitchens is nearly limitless. We are witnessing the next Uber in CloudKitchens. I encourage everyone to watch the video. I wish Travis and the team from CloudKitchens the best. Note: I have tried to get Travis to agree to an interview but so far, I have been unable to convince Travis to do so. #retail #management #leadership #future Chamath Palihapitiya Jason Calacanis David O. Grocery and Food industry disruption! Brittain Ladd You certainly stimulate thought! This reminds me of Ryanair original business model - to make air travel cheaper than any other way of getting to a destination. Crazy at the time, yet Ryanair is still doing fine and largely created a model that met its vision. Perhaps CloudKitchens can be the Ryanair of food production and distribution. Will watch this space. #distruption #innovation #foodinnovation #cpg #foodservice

It is remarkable how many product teams overlook a fundamental question: Does our product effectively address a genuine need? Take, for example, the case of Juicero, a company that secured a staggering $120 million in investments. Their ambitious venture? A sleek, high-tech juicer. Priced at a substantial $400, this juicer boasted WiFi connectivity and the ability to extract juice from their special packs with 4 tons of force (which, by the way, were sold separately via subscription). But get this: You could achieve the same outcome by simply squeezing the juice packs by hand. 🤐 All that capital poured into Juicero—vanished in a moment. 📉 They overlooked to address the initial enquiry: Does our product offer a compelling solution to a real problem? This serves as a lesson. Regardless of the confidence in your product, always assess its value proposition critically. Think 'Is this problem really a problem? #valueproposition #startupfailures #juicero

🚀 Meet the Telsa of Juicers🚀 Ever heard of a $400 juicer that could be outperformed by a strong handshake? Meet Juicero. This Silicon Valley $120 million darling promised the freshest juice with a sleek machine that squeezed proprietary packs of fruits and veggies. Sounds fancy, right? Well, turns out, you could achieve the same effect by literally squeezing the packs with your bare hands. 🍊💪 Cue the collective facepalm from investors and consumers alike. Lessons from the Juicero debacle: Clarity is Key: Make sure your product actually solves a problem people care about (and can't solve themselves). Know Your Market: Conduct real-world tests to avoid betting your VC dollars on a high-tech solution to a low-tech problem. Transparency Matters: If your product is essentially a $400 paperweight, customers will find out. Be upfront about what your product can (and can't) do. Keep Innovation Grounded: Innovation for the sake of innovation can lead to, well, Juicero. #failedfest

I’ve been waiting 9 months for this week since I started at IFT in October… IFT FIRST is officially here! Starting tomorrow morning, over 16,000 attendees will come together to address this year’s theme: Collaboration and Innovation: How can technology transform the food system? Over the past year, the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) team has been planning, creating, and building an amazing program and exhibit experience. Looking for some recommendations, or not sure where to start? Here are some of the top things I’m looking forward to experiencing this year: 1. The exhibit hall ribbon cutting ceremony - 10 am on Monday! Fresh Chai sponsored by KSM-66 Ashwagandha will be served. 2. The IFT Innovation Lab - Wednesday 11 am - 2 pm. Select a consumer challenge and product type and work through the product development process. Play with new technologies and consider products as you navigate different challenges along the way. 3. The Business First, Taste of Science, and Fireside Chat Stages on the expo floor - All day Monday and Tuesday. Learn from experts on the applications of their ingredients and products right on the show floor. 4. The Braindate Lounge - all day Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Interested in small group discussion on current challenges and topics? Suggest a topic you want to learn or share more about, or join an existing conversation. Find topics in the IFT FIRST app. 5. The Startup Pavilion and Pitch Competition - all day, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with pitch sessions at 1 pm and 4 pm and the finale Wednesday at 11:00 am. See up and coming products and trends! See you there!! #iftfirst #foodexpo #iftfirst2024 #feedingtheworld
