Shubham is too modest; he did not say that the acceptance rate at USENIX ATC this year was < 16%, and that this is only the third paper accepted at ATC from Indian academia in a decade. A preliminary version of this work had also received the best paper award at LastMiLeS Workshop held with COMSNETS 2022. It was Shubham's determination that allowed us to keep targeting (and improving) this work at top-tier places, even after being rejected earlier. Huge kudos to the other undergraduate students Aryan and Anjali who kept contributing even after their internship/credit requirements were completed, and Sohum and Purbasha for successfully re-implementing and evaluating the comparison points thoroughly. The work itself deals with lightweight techniques of filtering content on cheap traffic cameras, which have relatively low compute power. Although recent works in this area have increasingly moved towards using machine learning techniques for such filtering, we show that the information present in the compressed domain is sufficient to perform such lightweight filtering. Shubham was able to actually deploy it on a road for around an hour with due permission, and show that it works well in actual deployment. Hello all, With immense delight, I want to share that I've got my first-ever research paper titled "TileClipper: Lightweight Selection of Regions of Interest from Videos for Traffic Surveillance" accepted at USENIX ATC'24 (https://lnkd.in/e86fvEsd). It was a three-year journey of hard work, patience, persistence, and multiple rejections. Honestly, I cannot even imagine this achievement without my advisor Arani Bhattacharya, and collaborator Mukulika Maity. All credits go to them for their continuous guidance and support. I'm extremely grateful to my project mates Aryan Taneja, Anjali Singh, Sohum Sikdar, and Purbasha Roy for their appreciable efforts and contributions towards building and designing the whole system. Really looking forward to presenting the work at the conference. #IIITD #S2N #NRL #USENIX #ATC24

Port digitalization is a “must” which has to be taken into consideation and implemented through digital maturity path based on industry 4.0 standard, not only in oprrational level but also adminstration level. “Port Single Window” which has been enforced by FAL convention amendment since January 1, 2024, is just a small part of port digitalisation, therefore, a lot of things yet must be done.
Liaising with our BIMCO members and other maritime industry by coordinating the interests in common positions and clear communications ● Title: Manager, Maritime Safety & Security
Thrilled to share some exciting news with you! Yesterday, I had the opportunity to present the results of the BIMCO survey on digitalisation at the IMO FAL 48 meeting. It was quite an experience! This survey isn't just any survey. We're talking about an in-depth study conducted by BIMCO, IAPH, IFSMA, and FONASBA. The goal? To get a closer look at how ready we are for digitalisation and to understand the information submission processes between ports and ships during port calls. Main findings, the current process of collecting and submitting port call documentation is still quite a task. We're talking more than three hours on average – per port call! And the way digital tools are used, varies a lot from port to port. This tells us there's a definite need to get better of sharing data across systems. And when we do, we have to do it in a smarter and easier way. With all the different maritime single window (MSW) platforms being implemented over the coming years, it's clear that we need global harmonisation and standardisation to overcome the challenges posed by the diversity of systems and port interfaces. Collaboration is key to this work. So, there you have it, folks! I can't wait to see where these actions take us and how they will drive maritime digitalisation forward. If you want to see the full survey, also the six calls for action, have a look yourself: https://lnkd.in/dX_dix2z #BIMCO #Digitalisation #Maritime #IMO #FAL48
