My first day as a physician recruiter I knew absolutely zero about healthcare. My whole focus in life had been business. Learning business, reading about business, and running businesses. Had no intention of working in healthcare and on that first day I could barely explain the difference between a family doctor and cardiologist. Doctors have a prestigious legacy of passion, dedication, and sacrifice to their craft. Which means for a lot of people (including me) we can find doctors intimidating. Internally I thought they would laugh at me or question my motives coming from a business background. How could I even talk to them if I knew zero about healthcare? Why would they listen to me at all? Then I met my first doctor on the job. It was someone who was already coming to the community for a short term locum. All I had to do was pick him up at the airport and drop him off at his accommodations. It was a later flight so it was after dinner and I was so nervous! Pick up went great, I grabbed his bag and we hoped in my truck. I kept it simple explained where things were around town and who to call if needed anything. He came in from Toronto and I asked if he was a basketball fan. He was and we bonded over the Toronto Raptors. Before I knew it we were at his accommodation and he was on his way. Over the course of his time in my community we actually hung out after work and he met my wife. We even planned to meet up when we were all in Toronto next. After he left I learned a valuable lesson: physicians are just like regular people outside of work. From then on out every physician I ever met I treated them like a normal person. I wasn't nervous or intimidated anymore and most of them were actually pretty cool people. I also realized that I didn’t need to know a lot about medicine to recruit doctors I just needed to understand people. That first interaction launched my career. I went on to recruit more physicians than anyone could have thought possible. Culminating in a Top 20 Under 40 Leadership award for the whole region. All because I kept it simple and remembered that everyone is human. Just have a conversation. Recruiters take some pressure off yourself you got this!

I was in #saas during the pandemic and after being laid off, I made my way back to #healthcarestaffing - it's not what I remember it to be. This industry has been flipped upside down after COVID and the number of vendors in this space has tripled. Trying to understand their sales process, their escalation process, and how to strategically use their solutions has been nothing short of challenging. Most of them seem thrown together to serve a booming market... they were looking to make a buck. They don't understand best practice, they don't understand the need for analytics beyond a basic candidate funnel, and they want more money once the tool stops working for you. Not only did a ton of new vendors enter the space, but so did more agencies. You'd think these vendors would have better plans for their Growth vertical considering there are so many. I appreciate this POV down to my core because it has felt like so much of my time has been spent with vendors trying to make this **** work for us. #revenueenablement #revenueoperations #customercentric #sales
Vivian took $60M in funding during ZIRP (Zero Interest Rate Period) when the healthcare staffing market was experiencing 400% YoY growth, and private equity money was overflowing. They were overvalued, and when the healthcare staffing market crashes 50%, investors come hungry. Vivian is pressured to keep up or maintain revenue numbers - which is not possible when the industry is experiencing a shrinkage. So what do they do? They put pressure on their customers to extract maximum revenue. This comes in the form of re-negotiating contracts. We've heard them do the following: - Request aggressive permissions to customer ATSs so they can get access to your entire database of clinicians - Change attribution of clinicians overnight in your ATS so they are attributed to placements when they shouldn't be - Attribute placements to themselves even when you've already been in touch with the clinician prior to Vivian sending the lead - Giving you a short time period to refute placements, forcing you to agree to their false placements And that's not the worst part. They've also decided to compete head on with their customers, forging direct relationships with hospitals and trending in the direction of becoming the staffing company, instead of serving their customers. Over the last month I've had demo calls with staffing companies big and small about them reducing their dependence on Vivian. The industry is looking for alternatives. We've been hard at work at Vetted to build a friendly, recruiter-centric alternative to Vivian. I'm grateful for our early customers that used Vetted when it was a basic product. I remember getting several emails per week from customers requesting improvements to be made, and I'm happy to have worked tirelessly with the team to make those improvements to get the product to where it is today. Emails like the one below put a smile on my face. We did not get emails like this 2 years ago. The product simply was not good enough. We're continuing to listen to feedback, and make prompt improvements to the product. I'm excited for the future of our industry.
