Finally, Someone gets it. (This is what I expect more of in airports). I’ve been dying to have a positive brand experience at an airport for a long time… Introducing: Cloud Picker. A local Dublin-based coffee roaster, unique to Dublin. Right among the gates. No Costa Coffee, No Cafe Nero, No Starbucks. A local chain. Airports at the end of the day are brands. And it blows my mind how neglected airports as brands are. Before I reach my gate, I am Dublin Airport’s customer. The way they immerse me in the local culture as a tourist is crucial. So having this local artisan coffee roaster, who were explaining their process, what makes them unique and why they exist - helped to create a genuinely distinct experience compared to other airports, like Istanbul or Dubai. It’s the little things that go a long way, and this made me feel truly connected to being in Dublin. Airports should have state of the art WiFi and Co-Working. They should have live music with local bands. They should have events which are unique to their part of the world. They should make you want to fly from there again and again. A huge shout-out to Cloud Picker. Your coffee was incredible. PS - When was the last time you had a positive brand experience at an airport?

We love this post Koral Ibrahim and we are delighted to feature great Irish brands like Cloud Picker Coffee throughout Dublin Airport ❤️ (They’re also at T1 arrivals for anyone visiting or picking someone up 😉)

"When was the last time you had a positive brand experience at an airport?" - Last night actually! Revolver (REVOLVER BALI) is a coffee house in Bali, founded by an Australian who couldn't find decent coffee in Bali so she decided to launch her own cafe in Seminyak. Now with 6 outlets across Bali including domestic and international terminals, they have absolutely nailed it. Their aesthetic is only beaten by the quality of their coffee and food menu - and they staff. And their décor. It's a complete experience that should be international.

Thats great to hear, as a Dub i have always been disappointed in the Dublin Airport offer - i look forward to this next month! But actually i just returned from Rome Fiumcino Airport and was thinking similar - Eataly with its huge fresh offering and roof top bar was far from anything i experienced in others - bar team were a bit under pressure and disorganised but go there in the end. Hats off to them - lets see more of the same

You've got the right expectations but it's a shame how few "get it." There's so much opportunity in airports, much more than on the high street in my opinion.

Honestly, I can't think of many positive brand experiences at airports. It's just such a missed opportunity. All the elements are there, but instead, brands try to make mini malls... You're absolutely right Koral Ibrahim about airports needing to embrace local culture and create unique experiences. It's fantastic to see Dublin Airport taking this approach with a local coffee roaster. Your ideas for improving airports are spot-on - live music, co-working spaces, and local events could truly transform the travel experience. This is the kind of innovative thinking airports need!

As an Irish person, who often travels through Dublin airport, it's far from perfect but there's lots of pluses to talk about and the above is definitely one of them. Given the dwell time often experienced at airports, they should be destinations for amazing dwell time.I would love to pull together a view on the best of the best experiences that different people have encountered in airports around the world and create a cx handbook on this. You've just inspired a great idea!
