🌟CGTN Interview - Vegas Liu @KOS We're proud to share that Vegas Liu, our Corporate Strategy & Development Manager at KOS, was recently invited by CGTN to share his valuable insights and perspectives on the benefits of the Top Talent Pass Scheme (TTPS) 💪🏻. During the interview, Vegas demonstrated his commitment to develop in Hong Kong by practicing his Cantonese, showcasing his adaptability and cultural awareness 😎💪🏻. He also highlighted that one of the best features of the scheme is it’s flexiblity to grant participants a visa before they secure a job. This allows them to relocate to Hong Kong, immerse themselves in the local culture and lifestyle, and assess whether they are a good fit here🤔. Both domestic and overseas talents can explore the potential for development in Hong Kong through the scheme. KOS is dedicated to supporting individuals and organizations in navigating the evolving talent landscape. Interested in learning more about the TTPS ? Reach out to us now. You can connect better with speakers of English as a Foreign Language. I can help🔑Founder of English Unlocked 🔑Speaker 🔑Consultant 🔑Trainer
I'm excited today to run the first of two NEW workshops- Job Seeking Tips for Hong Kongers in The UK (this evening) and How to Spot Hidden Talent in Candidates from Hong Kong. (Coming in October.) (This workshop will be attended by UK employers.) Thanks to Zephyr Li and colleagues from the Wales Strategic Migration Partnership for commissioning this pair of workshops. Both workshops are to help get Hong Kongers into work. There are plenty of Hong Kongers arriving in The UK right now. They have no recourse to public funds which means they need to find a job QUICKLY. But how can they navigate our job market? There are so many cultural differences which get in their way. These cultural differences are what we will focus on in today's workshop. For example, how can you answer small talk questions in interviews? People who have been educated and worked in Hong Kong tend to have a very high #English level. A lack of English is not the reason why many of them are confused by a simple question such as 'Did you find us OK?' It's a cultural difference. If you are a Hong Konger living in The UK, I would love to read your comment. Have you had a job interview yet? Did they ask you this question? Were there any other strange questions you found surprising? If you work for a Strategic Migration Partnership, get in touch to book this workshop for your region. Wales is the first region to book this training by English Unlocked, but it is available for all the regions. #employabilityskills #culturalawareness

Help companies get the full picture of the future of talent development and development. Reach out for a chat!
I was waiting for the bus and saw this Citybus Recruitment ad to encourage the Islamic community to become a bus captain. In fact, KMB did a recruitment drive at a Mosque last year too, hoping to increase the diversity of their staff. The only skills that you need is Cantonese! It seems a no brainer for companies to increase their talent pool and roll out L&D plans to up skill talents, unfortunately this is not the case for HK and Taiwan where companies still looks for education and past experience as the basic criteria. The past does not define who someone is, if you cannot hire, it may be more to do with the company itself than the actual talent pool. In a low unemployment rate environment, what are you doing to entice talents to work for you?

Is anyone experiencing the same frustration? The arduous task of securing meaningful employment in the bustling metropolis of Hong Kong can often feel like a Sisyphean endeavor, fraught with a sense of dejection and despair. For those who do not possess the linguistic prowess of Cantonese or Mandarin, the job market can seem like an impenetrable fortress, guarded by the unforgiving demands of employers who prioritize fluency in these local tongues above all else. The frustration is palpable, as one navigates the labyrinth of job postings, each one seemingly erected as a barrier to those who have not mastered the nuances of these complex languages. The realization that one's skills, qualifications, and experience may be rendered inconsequential in the face of this linguistic prerequisite can be a heavy burden to bear, sapping the motivation and enthusiasm that should rightfully fuel the pursuit of professional advancement. This dispiriting reality can cast a long shadow over the educational and self-improvement aspirations of those who find themselves on the outside, looking in. The nagging doubt that any investment in further study or training may ultimately prove to be a futile exercise only serves to compound the sense of hopelessness, as the path to a fulfilling career appears to be barricaded by an insurmountable linguistic barrier. The struggle to find a foothold in Hong Kong's job market, when one's native tongue is not among the privileged few, is a testament to the complex challenges faced by a diverse and multilingual society. It is a call to action for local employers to foster a more inclusive and equitable environment, where the true measure of an individual's worth is not solely determined by the languages they command, but by the depth of their knowledge, the breadth of their skills, and the passion they bring to their work.

Hey there, I totally get how seeing Mandarin language requirements in job listings can be a bit discouraging. But I want to remind you not to let language barriers hold you back from going for these opportunities. It's important to remember that language is just one part of the job requirements, and it shouldn't overshadow your qualifications and skills. Believe in yourself, have the confidence to apply, and during the interview, make sure to highlight that while Mandarin may not be your strong suit, you have experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and have successfully communicated in English, which is widely used and understood. Your ability to adapt, learn, and work effectively in multicultural settings is what truly matters. Employers value candidates who are open-minded and can thrive in diverse environments. So, don't hesitate to showcase your strengths and demonstrate how you can make a positive impact, regardless of language preferences. Remember, English is a universal language that can bridge communication gaps and help you connect with others. Your proficiency in English is a valuable asset that sets you apart as a strong candidate. Stay positive, trust in your abilities, and show employers why you're the perfect fit for the job. You've got this!
