You know something that is next level scary? The amount of species that we could lose as a result of our freshwater ecosystems being so unhealthy! Even the loss of species we can't see with our bare eyes could have negative repercussions through the whole food chain. Here’s a very quick round up of just a few wildlife species we could lose if we don’t sort it out. Thankfully there’s communities and organisations across the UK who are fighting for their survival, and campaigning to clean up our waterways. Our Not So Freshwater campaign is calling on the UK government to: ☠️ Reduce pesticide use(volume and toxicity) by 50% by 2030. 🌳 Create and implement ambitious targets to restore field margins and riverside ecosystems to reduce field run-off and boost our waters for wildlife and people On our campaign webpage there’s an email template you can use to your MP, asking them to start taking action in your local area. A simple action that takes just 5 mins and could have a huge impact for nature near you 👉 https://ow.ly/FPOB50TTbcB #nature #wildlife #youthactivism #freshwater #halloween #pollution

Will be interesting see the methodology and evidence for mitigating 3,700 homes from 827acres of arable farmland. This indicates and reinforces the massive impact that agriculture has compared to housing in terms of pollution of rivers and other designated sites like Poole Harbour.
A significant step forward for sustainable development and nature recovery. 🏡 Today, with Dorset Wildlife Trust, we’ve announced the purchase of Lyscombe Farm in Dorset through our Nutrient Mitigation scheme. Nutrient pollution is an urgent problem for our waterways and can be disastrous for wildlife. Our Nutrient Mitigation Scheme is helping to reduce pollution and allowing sustainable development to continue. Lyscombe covers 827 acres of chalk downland and farmland and will provide nutrient credits to enable thousands of new homes to be built in the area whilst recovering nature. This World Ocean Day we are encouraging you to join us to #PickUp4Penguins and clean up trash in your local community. Even if you don't live near the ocean the garbage in our ecosystem can make its way into the local waterways which eventually end up in the ocean and can harm wildlife like pelagic fish species which are a popular prey item for penguins. Will you be part of the solution? Tag us in your actions! #30x30 #WorldOceanDay2024 #OceanClimateAction
